1. The definition of words and political ideas can have different meanings in different contexts
worldwide. In fact, the Freedom in the World survey published by Freedom House evaluates the state of
political rights and civil liberties around the world. Provide a description of this survey and a ranking (in
terms of “freedom”) of the world’s country leaders and laggards. What factors are taken into
consideration in this survey?
According to the freedom in the world survey the democracies generally remain the world’s
wealthiest societies, the most open to new ideas and opportunities, the least corrupt, and the most
protective of individual liberties. The survey has a compelling evaluation based on how free, partly free
and not free a country is. There are only 69 out of 195 countries are free. Democracy is in crisis. The
values it embodies—particularly the right to choose leaders in free and fair elections, freedom of the
press, and the rule of law—are under assault and in retreat globally.
44% of a 195 total countries are free, 30% are partly free while the 26% are not free.
Political rights and civil liberties around the world deteriorated to their lowest point in more than a
decade in 2017, extending a period characterized by emboldened autocrats, beleaguered democracies,
and the United States’ withdrawal from its leadership role in the global struggle for human freedom.
Freedom in the World 2019 evaluates the state of freedom in 195 countries and 14 territories during
calendar year 2018. Each country and territory is assigned between 0 and 4 points on a series of 25
indicators, for an aggregate score of up to 100. These scores are used to determine two numerical
ratings, for political rights and civil liberties, with a rating of 1 representing the most free conditions and
7 the least free. A country or territory’s political rights and civil liberties ratings then determine whether
it has an overall status of Free, Partly Free, or Not Free.

impact on the benefits, costs, and risks of doing business in various countries. The World Bank’s “Doing

contracts are enforced, how property can be registered, and how investors can be protected. Identify in
