Uniforms are something that is becoming the normal whether you now It or not. From
jobs to schools to appointments, uniforms are more normal than you think. I am a firm support
of uniforms being mandatory in the school system for students to a certain level. It will help the
students become ready for what the future holds for them. I feel it will help with bullying in the
school system. There are many positive and negative tips when it comes down to uniforms.
After reviewing procon.org about the topic it has really opened my eyes to this topic as this is
something I am strong about. I would like to compare many of the pros and cons of students
wearing uniforms.
I would like to start off with uniforms being something that may reduce bullying in
school. According to procon.org, when students are dressed alike competition between
students over clothing choices and the teasing of those who are dressed in less expensive
outfits can be eliminated. I am a firm believer that this is true. I have had an opportunity to
work in schools and noticed the students who aren’t wearing the clothing that is “IN” are
typically made fun of which is sad when I had the chance to witness it. Students do not have a
choice most of the time about what they can and cannot wear. Sometimes it is based off of the
parents. A single parent who is taking care of the home, bills, and the child may not be able to
afford clothing or shoes as those of a family who has both a mom and dad in the home with two
incomes. This will put everyone on the same playing field no matter what your home situation is
in the schools. This is one that I have always spoke about for the longest. If you force every
student in the school to wear uniforms then if someone comes in dressed differently you will be
able to point them out. I want to take a look at some of the most recent mass school shootings
that took place. If you take a look at the actual shooters you will know they are dressed in plain
street clothes, if that school had a strict uniform policy it will be easy to point out the person
Uniforms are also to me something to be prideful of. This does bring students together
for a cause. I also feel that uniforms are preparing students for their futures. Today many jobs
requires some type of uniform whether if its same colors, style, or just something to show that
you are apart of that company. Uniforms are something that can be seen as a good think when
there is a football game it shows pride in the school team. Lets look forward to the future. If a
lawyers showed up to court with swim wear or jeans they would not be taken serious, although
many people do not see it as a uniform they still wear something similar, a suit, blazer, and
slacks or dresses for the females. Same for many first time jobs for high school students require
a uniform and not wearing that uniform can cause one to be fired. So uniforms in school is a
Something after reviewing procon.org that I came across was that wearing uniforms
does not allow the students to showcase their personality. To an extent I have to support this
statement as it is true. Since reading that statement I feel that uniforms should be worn for
elementary and middle school students. For high school students I think instead of actual
uniforms, there should be guidelines for students to follow. Many feel that restricting the ability
for students to wear what they want is a violation of the first amendment. I think this is true and
should start in high school. This is when students personalities start to really show. At the same
time with guidelines it still keeps a uniform just allowing others to be personable.
Overall, I think that uniforms are not a bad thing but the good does outweight the bad
about wearing them. If I could personally make a rule, I would say that students would have to
wear the same colors, schemes, and style not the exact same shirts and pants. I would also push
for this to be for elementary and middle school students. High schools students should be
treated as adults as It is the transition stage from child to adulthood. Uniforms are not all bad
nor are they all good many pros and cons and there can be alterations to the rule.
