Joe Biden Should add Senator Elizabeth Warren to the Democratic Ticket
As the 2020 election approaches and Biden looks to choose a running mate Senator Elizabeth
Warren is his best option because of her ability to unify the party and her past experience as a
long term senator and her time running to be the Democratic nominee earlier this year.

SILVER SPRING Md.-- Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden has vowed to choose a
female running mate. Biden’s choice will have great implications as this woman will be the new
front runner of the Democratic party even if Biden loses in November.

Adding a woman to the ticket would help to balance it and would bring in more voters to Biden’s
campaign. Having a woman on the ticket would also push the country closer to the first female
president. It also addresses the concern of many that an all male ticket doesn’t represent the
makeup of the Democratic party or the country, and could leave out the experiences and views of
a large portion of the party. A female running mate could spark enthusiasm and energy within
the Democratic party to mobilize voters. This would be important because many voters are not
enthused by Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Overall Biden has somewhat of a shaky history with women with sexual assault or misconduct
allegations, most recently Tara Reade a former worker in Biden’s office. This past could make
some female voters hesitant to vote for him. Adding a woman to the ticket would bring in female
voters who could be hesitant towards supporting Biden. A female nominee would also be able to
bring in additional perspectives relating to sexual harassment on behalf of woman that Biden
couldn’t necessarily bring.

Going into the 2020 election the main concern for the Democratic party is how un-unified the
party is. Split between more far left views and candidates such as Bernie Sanders and moderates
who support Joe Biden. Many individuals who believe strongly in democratic socialism, and
support Sanders are unlikely to vote for Biden in the fall. According to a USA Today poll, “22
percent of Sanders voters would vote for a third party candidate, Trump or not at all” (Politico).
Biden needs to choose a running mate who is able to unify the party and bring more left leaning
voters to Biden’s side. Senator Elizabeth Warren would be able to bring this to the Biden ticket.
She is a more left leaning candidate who would bring in Sanders supporters as they have similar
ideologies and proposals.

Many have stressed the importance of a candidate who has been vetted and tested on a national
stage. Many of the other considerations for Biden’s nominee are not well known on a national
stage, and haven’t been tested on a national stage, or experienced anything as large as a
presidential election. Senator Warren has been tested on a national stage and is well known. She
has been involved with politics since 1996, and has experience on a national stage from her time
running to be the Democratic party’s nominee for president.

Additionally polling shows that adding Warren to the ticket would help Biden, and that Warren
is the top pick amongst voters as Biden’s vice presidential nominee. 71 % of registered
Democratic voters believe Biden should choose Warren as his running mate (CBS). According to
another poll for 50 % of registered voters the major factor in their choice is the economy while
only 30 % say it is coronavirus (CBS). Warren has a lot of expertise and experience when it
comes to dealing with the economy due to her work during the 2008 financial crisis.

More polling shows that adding Warren to the ticket would make voters overall, and specific
demographics of voters more likely to vote for Biden. According to one poll 26 % of voters say
placing Warren on the ticket would make them more likely to vote for Biden (Morning Consult).
Additionally polling found Warren would do the best with younger and minority voters. This
could help Biden whose more moderate views appeal less to more left leaning younger voters.
Compared to other potential candidates Biden could choose from such as Amy Klobuchar,
Kamala Harris and Stacey Abrams, Warren gives Biden the biggest boost amongst voters.

As the Democratic convention quickly approaches Biden will soon need to choose a nominee.
Biden should choose Senator Elizabeth Warren because of her ability to unite the party and bring
in more voters.
