POLYTRAUMA – ITS EFFECTS & OUTCOME WITH HORMONAL

MODULATION.
The purpose of this presentation is to highlight the pathophysiological processes that occur in a
Traumatised patient with any form of Central Nervous System – Brain, Spinal Cord or Peripheral
Nerve Injuries and its post traumatic effects.

Hormonal Modulation on these Post Traumatized individuals will help them have a better
quality of life & life expectancy. This will also alleviate their Post Traumatic Depression with
Fatigue, which constitutes a major role in Post Traumatic Recovery.

Hormones are involved with virtually every action that the Brain undertakes.
Neuroendocrinology offers opportunities to expose the influence of neural activity on
Endocrine secretion and effect of Hormones, in turn, on Neural Activity.

The Brain is the Commanding Centre of the Human Body. It controls basic functions of our
bodies, our movements, our actions & reactions, our thoughts & emotions. All circulating
hormones from peripheral hormonal glands have their effect on the Central Commander of the
Central Nervous System. Hormones influence Brain Development, Reproduction, Sexual
Differentiation, Cognition, Memory, Behaviour, and several other functions. These effects are
mediated by hormone receptors which directly regulate gene expression.

Estrogen Receptors (ER), Androgen Receptors (AR), Corticosteriod Receptors are many such
hormonal receptors that can be highlighted. The CNS has a remarkable capacity for self re-
organization & hormonal modulation with regards to Brain Activities. This makes the
fundamental actions on Cellular Processes & Genomic Activity over the control of their
secretion by environmental signals, steroid & thyroid hormone actions on the Brain provide
unique insights into the plasticity of the Brain & Behaviour.

Balancing Hormones, Neuro-Hormones & Neurotransmitters can serve as the key of treating
Traumatised Individuals with direct Brain Trauma, Brain Insult secondary to Spontaneous
Haemorrhages, Spinal Cord Trauma, Peripheral Nerve Trauma or any form of Trauma. Post
Trauma Rehabilitation with Hormonal Modulation + Nutritional Balancing Diets will be the way
forward for Proper & Adequate Recovery for better Quality of Life & Life Expectancy.

A few cases will be presented to highlight the above mentioned criterion in Neuro-
Rehabilitation for Traumatised & Non Traumatised (Spontaneous Strokes) individuals.
