FINAL EXAMINATION IN EM 205 – TEACHER SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION

METHODS

Suppose you are the school head of a school, what are you going to do if you encounter the following
situation?

1. As a supervisor, how can you demonstrate full commitment and devotion in supervising the
teaching and learning process and in evaluating teachers’ performance?

2. A school head observed a class one month after the start of classes. He saw how unruly the
children were. Routine was not established and skills were not mastered at all. However, the
teacher tried her best to impart the necessary learning experiences through provision for the
utilization of varied teaching devices and practice exercises. In accomplishing your observation
report, what should you consider in giving comments/suggestions?

3. The school principal of a certain school learned that the MPS of the school for the last two years
was below target. It was learned further that the teachers do not follow strictly the learning
competencies at the year level tested. What management functions should the principal look
into? Why?

4. You were observing class in Music. Right away, you noticed/heard the mistake of the teacher
in singing the song by role method. You know for a fact that once a mistake in singing a song is
committed, pupils would experience difficulties in singing it with the correct tune. If you were
the principal, what would you do?

5. A parent was not satisfied with the result of the ranking of the grade of his son in the honor roll.
Records of his son’s academic and non-academic performances were presented to him to prove
that there was no manipulation by the teacher. He even threatened the principal that he would
go to the DepEd if change in the ranking of his son would not be affected. If you were the
principal, would you give in to what the parent wanted? Why or why not?

6. The performance indicator for one of the objective of Professional Growth and Development as
Key Result Area (KRA) state that in order to get 5 points, a teacher should “served 3
demonstration teaching/ facilitatorship /resource speakership in division level”. A teacher rated
himself 5 points in this indicator. However, her documents showed that she did not conduct any
demonstration teaching, facilitatorship or resource speakership in the division and district level
but in school level only which would warrant a rating of 1 point instead of 5 points. If you were
the principal, what would you do?

7. You conducted a surprise visit to a class. You wanted to observe classes but you found out that
the teacher did not fill out her Daily Lesson Log. Are you still going to observe the teacher?
What technical assistance can you provide to make her an effective educator?
8. A Demonstration Festival was held in your school. All teachers were required to attend.
However, Grade I teachers did not attend for the reason that they were not aware of it. You
found out later that they signed the memorandum which you issued in connection with the
aforementioned school demonstration lesson. If you were the principal, what would you do?

residence because of financial consideration. How can the principal extend her assistance to
affect the transfer of the teacher within the division?

10. Induction is the systematic process of training and supporting new teachers, beginning before
the start of the first day of school and continuing throughout the year. Is it a good practice of a
supervisor? Why or Why not?
