When using aircraft support in the ‘Road
d
to Caen’ campaign, players must first
pay the respective SP cost for their
aircraft according to the type of
mission chosen.
If the Focke 190 achieves a ‘W’ result on the Typhoon damage chart, (in the
cases of Spitfire IX and Beautfighters both ‘S’ boxes) thus damaging it, the
Typhoon will leave the table and NOT carry out its mission. Both aircraft will
be removed and take no further part in the game. In the event the Focke 190 only
achieves a single ‘S’ result the Typhoon suffers a –1 modifier to its ACC score
(in the cases of a Lancaster, B-25 Mitchell or B-17 Fortress two ‘S’ boxes must
be removed before the bomber suffers the –1 modifier). Likewise if an Allied and
Axis Fighter go head to head in a dogfight, and the Axis aircraft goes first and
only inflicts single ‘S’ result the Allied aircraft ACC is subject to the –1
modifier when it return fire and from that point onward.
In the event the Focke 190 had not damaged the Typhoon the Typhoon would
complete its ground attack mission as normal and then both aircraft would be
removed from play. If the Typhoon had expended all of its under wing ordinance
the DH7 rules apply. If the Typhoon returns to perform a second ground attack to
fire its unused ordinance then the Typhoon maybe attacked by the Focke 190 on CAP
as long as the Focke 190 is still operational.
If a Commander has two aircraft then roll once for each aircraft, preferably
with two different coloured dice, then apply the relevant modifiers and conduct
each combat in sequence as per modified scores rolled.
