Job Description for Boiler Control Engineer

Job Description:

• Boiler engineer directly responsible for Boiler Control’s Design for DCS/PLC retrofit projects
• Engage in Implementation and Testing phases of Boiler Controls Design projects
• Engage in Boiler Start-Up and Control Tuning at sites

Primary Duties and Accountabilities:

• Site walk down for site surveys & data collections


• Design, implementation of Boiler controls and protection systems
• Process simulation & testing
• Pre-FAT, FAT & clean-up after FAT
• Verification and functional testing of I/O interfaces to field devices
• I/O database partitioning for redundancy and fail safe configurations
• Boiler control’s commissioning, start-up & tuning
• Performance guarantee & reliability test
• Supervision of Boiler control system retrofits and installations
• Identifying and communicating areas of potential process and design improvements to
project manager
• Compliance with internal and customer safety and security requirements
• Working with contractors / sub-contractors
• Fostering smooth collaboration and communication with project stake holders (internal
project teams, customer project teams and onsite contractors)

Required Skills:

• B. Tech / B.E (ECE, EEE, I&C, E&I) is essential


• Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in sub critical / super critical fossil fired Boiler Control
Design
• Boiler Control System Process knowledge including the following sub-systems
o Coordinated throttle pressure and megawatt control (Unit coordinated control)
o Fuel flow control of various fossil fuels
o Forced draft, induced draft, primary, secondary, and over fire air flow control
o Feedwater and drum level control
• Superheat and reheat spray control Skills in Boiler Control Design, tuning, process
sequencing and protection philosophies
• Advanced troubleshooting, set priorities, problem-solving, decision-making, and planning
skills
• Excellent language and communication skills, both verbal and written required
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence and commissioning documents
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to queries from groups of managers,
clients and customers
• Ability to interface with vendors & sub-contractors
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram
form
• Experience working for a major Power Plant, Boiler manufacturer or Boiler Controls vendor
• Proficiency with ISA and SAMA logic symbols, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs),
electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics
• Knowledge of NFPA 85
• Experience with designing and implementing control system configuration changes
• Added advantage will be proficiency with one or more DCS platforms (e.g. Emerson Ovation,
ABB Pro Control / Bailey INFI 90, Siemens T3000 / TXP, GE Mark VI, Mitsubishi DIASYS
Netmation, Invensys, Honeywell TDC3000, MaxDNA, MetsoDNA, Alstom Alspa320 etc.).
