Shop primer breakdown

(requires 100% blasting)

All products supplied and technical advice or recommendations

given are subject to our Standard Terms and Conditions.
5. Practical Implementation – PSP & Shop Priming

Recommendations:

• Blast abrasive
- Use steel shot/grit at 3:1 ration
- Small size (large grade will give too high profile)
- Reliable supplier with CoA for conductivity
- Carry out trial on primer line speed and/or set-up to ensure 30~75μm
• Ensure all oil contamination is removed from surface prior to blasting
(both sides)
- Flame heaters
- Chemical cleaning
• Install (preferably fixed) air blowers to remove surface dust prior to primer
application

All products supplied and technical advice or recommendations

given are subject to our Standard Terms and Conditions.
5. Practical Implementation – PSP & Shop Priming

Recommendations:

• Ensure soluble salt levels ≤ 50mg/m2

- Reduce time steel plates are exposed to atmosphere
- Check blast abrasive conductivity regularly
• Shop primer Type Approval
- Supplier requires IACS Z17 Quality audit
- Product must have passed Marintek B1 or equivalent test
- Main coating suitability must be confirmed by paint-maker
- Incompatable shop primer must be blasted minimum 70%
• Set-up shop primer plant (line speed, spray pattern, tip size) to ensure
even/complete film coverage
• Documented QC records in English
