ABSTRACT
Corrosion inhibition effect of synthesized N-[4-acetyl- 4,5-dihydro-5-(1-phenyl-5-methyl-1H-
1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)-5-methyl- 1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl]acetamide (APTTA) was investigated on
N80 steel corrosion in 15% HCl solution by using weight loss, electrochemical polarization
and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The inhibitor APTTA show
corrosion inhibition efficiency of 96.3 % in 40 ppm concentration, at 333 K. It was found that
the inhibition efficiency of this inhibitor increases with increase in concentration. The effect of
temperature on the corrosion rate was investigated and some thermodynamic parameters
were calculated. Polarization studies show that the studied inhibitor is of mixed type in
nature. The adsorption of this inhibitor on N80 steel in acid solution obeys Langmuir
adsorption isotherm. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopic
(AFM) studies were used to characterize the surface condition and composition.
