Esa copa de más

Una copa lleva a otra y... Las noches son muy duras cuando you have had a few too many, have had
one over the eight (en inglés
británico) o have had a bucketful, es decir, cuando has bebido demasiado.
Si estás tipsy, tiddly o under the influence (bajo la influencia del alcohol, se entiende), es que estás
achispado, piripi.
Existen numerosos adjetivos para decir que una persona está borracha. En inglés británico, suele decirse
legless (de leg, como si no sintiera
las piernas), hammered (de hammer, como si le hubieran dado un martillazo en la cabeza), wrecked (de
wreck, como si hubiera
naufragado) o smashed (del verbo to smash, como si le hubieran aplastado la cabeza). Recientemente
han aparecido otros términos, como
trashed (de trash, basura), bladdered (de bladder, vejiga) y trolleyed (de trolley, tranvía). En Escocia
podrían decir que está steaming,
como si desprendiera vapor. En inglés americano, en cambio, es muy habitual el adjetivo wasted.
Existen muchos otros términos, como plastered, off one’s face, out of it, far gone, rolling drunk, in the
bag (en inglés americano),
banjaxed (en escocés o irlandés), out of one’s head o three sheets to the wind.
Si una persona bebe para olvidar los problemas, he/she is drowning his/her sorrows (ahoga las penas).
Y si se da a la bebida, puedes
decir que he hits the bottle.
Cuando una persona se encuentra en un estado avanzado de embriaguez, empieza a sentirse mal, es
decir, to be poorly and to feel sick.
Por eso, lo mejor es no beber demasiado if you can’t handle your drink (si no aguantas bien el
alcohol).
De resaca
El día siguiente a una cogorza, lo más probable es que no te encuentres muy bien. Seguramente you feel
under the weather o you feel off
colour. Además, tendrás mala cara, es decir, you look rough, like death o like something the cat
dragged in. En pocas palabras, tienes
resaca: you have a hangover o you are hungover. Hangover también puede utilizarse como verbo.
Tienes dos soluciones: o descansas, o you have a hair of the dog, es decir, te tomas una copita para
que se te pase la resaca (aunque el
resultado no está garantizado).
Lo mejor es que descanses para recuperarte de tus males, ya que probablemente estarás agotado. Aquí
tienes unos adjetivos para describir
tu estado: knackered, shattered en inglés británico, beat en inglés americano, tired out, zonked out,
washed out o wiped. También
puedes decir que you feel like a zombie.
