1. As a Sanitary Engineer assigned in a proposed Water Supply Project, how will the characteristics of the
water source such as stream/river (usually used in large scale water supply) affect your design? – As a
sanitary Engineer the main concern is the safety of the consumer, because there might be
filtration and water treatment needed so that the water that is delivered can be safely
consumed.
2. In designing Public Swimming structures, what are the parameters to consider?
- The parameters that should be considered in constructing public swimming pools come in
stages.

- Hydraulics – Hydraulics considerations must be addressed to protect the safety of

users.
- Filtration – the modernization of filtration equipment to maintain water clarity is a major
factor in new construction.
- Fencing and Barriers - Suitable barriers help prevent unauthorized access, thus
protecting children from injury or drowning.
- Handicap Access - Handicap access is of utmost importance when undertaking any new
construction, renovation or modernization. Handicaps like lifts, ramps, stairs with
appropriate railings and zero-depth entry are the preferred means.
- Life Rings – Life Rings are necessary for the safety of the users.

3. How is an Industrial Hygienist differ from a Safety Officer?

- Industrial hygienist is concerned with identifying, analyzing, and controlling the stressors in a
work environment that could lead to injury, illness, or impairment health while the Safety
Officer provide safety management, advice, monitoring and reporting in the workplace, and
engage staff in programs that ensure safe practice in the workplace.
4. Among the mention key components of Industrial Hygiene, select at least 2 components that
can be associated to Sanitary Engineering and explain its relation.
– Ergonomics: Human factors engineering, also called ergonomics or human engineering,
science dealing with the application of information on physical and psychological characteristics
to the design of devices and systems for human use.
-Eliminating or Controlling Hazards - remove the hazard from the workplace, or substitute
(replace) hazardous materials or machines with less hazardous ones.
5.
6. There are 4 Sanitary Engineering Fields, where do you think “Public Swimming or Bathing
Places” falls under? Justify your answer.
-Public Swimming and Bathing places fall under public health engineering because in these
places a gathering could mostly occur and as a sanitary engineer you should ensure the safety of
the public for them to enjoy the activities and reduce the risk of injuries and ailments.
7. Why is it that people of low socio-economic status are more prone to higher risk of noise and
air pollution?
-Air pollution and noise pollution have a negative impact on all of society — but some groups
are more affected than others. Lower socioeconomic status is generally associated with poorer
health, and both air and noise pollution contribute to a wide range of other factors influencing
human health. But do these health inequalities arise because of increased exposure to pollution,
increased sensitivity to exposure and increased vulnerabilities.

8. What are the environmental laws and regulations that addresses the problems of air and
noise pollution?
- The Philippines Clean Air Act of 1999 (Republic Act No. 8749) outlines the government's
measures to reduce air pollution and incorporate environmental protection into its
development plans.
-This Act shall be known as the "Public Disturbance Noise Regulation Act". Towards
this end, the State shall endeavor to reduce the exposure of the public to noise and
improve health by regulating any sound which unreasonably injures or endangers the
comfort, repose, peace, safety, and health of every person.
9. As a Sanitary Engineer, what is your contribution in reducing the exposure of the people to
noise and air pollution?
- By mandating people a proper segregation, hazard precaution, proper safety equipment and
proper hygiene and in noise pollution strict implementation of the public disturbance noise
regulation act.
10. Drainage and sewerage projects addresses what environmental laws and regulations?
- Sewerage and Sanitation Provisions (Industrial Hygiene) (DOH A.O. 111, s.1991

-Sanitation and Drainage Provisions (Local Government Code - R.A. 7160 of 1991)

-Sanitation and Drainage Provisions (Local Government Code IRR of 1992)

-Wastewater and Drainage Provisions (National Building Code - P.D. 1096 of 1977)

-Sewerage Provisions (Provincial Water Utilities Act - P.D. 198 of 1973)

-Sewage Disposal Provisions (1974 IRR of P.D. 522) Sewage Disposal and Drainage
Provisions

Write True or False:

satisfactory bacteriological quality. -True

3. Local Health Officer can conduct and prepare the inspection report of public swimming or bathing
place. -False
