Film Review: The Rise of ISIS

Introduction

Power is the ability to control people. This may have either positive or negative effect to

the group of people being controlled by certain authorities. Having power gives some people

satisfaction because others want to get it to be able to do their selfish acts resulting to domination

to citizens. The process of this domination sometimes harms or kills the citizens of a particular

country. The given power and independence are abused for the benefit of the selfish one.

Seeking for power sometimes results into a war. War will always bring deaths and the lives of

people in the war zone is ruined. The moment when one thought of having a war with the other,

peace is already lost because one thing will lead to another.

Reflection and Discussion

In 2011, President Obama let Iraq stand on its own feet and the American soldiers started

to leave the country. Just a day after the last American soldiers left Iraq, the nightmare started to

happen. What provoked this to happen is Obama’s response to the situation prior to the

nightmare which probably understood as a go signal to do anything that as Maliki wishes.

Hashimi, the Vice President of Iraq and his bodyguards were Maliki’s first targets. Afraid to lose

his power, the President did sort of things that badly affected the country. A group of very

hardened killers directed on Iraqi forces and suicide bombings. The Syrian war was the greatest

turning point of ISIS. If the group didn’t go to Syria, they won’t be what they are today.
Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, sent large number of men to Syria. While all of these things are

happening in Syria, Maliki’s purges of Sunnis continued. The arrest of Rafi Essawi’s bodyguards

is considered the real blow to the Sunni community because Rafi is known as a kind man who

won’t be suspected in ordering his men to do nasty things. People are protesting for their rights

because what’s happening is injustice and isn’t fair. The Obama Administration told Maliki to

stop because what they are doing is a mistake. Other countries provided assistance to the rebels

which is a wrong move. In 2013, the group started to call themselves the Islamic State in Iraq

and al Sham (ISIS). They brought more reinforcements over the Syrian border. Maliki asked for

help to the Americans. The US intelligence and defense officials were alarmed about ISIS.

Everyone that is affected did everything they could to defeat ISIS but the group is out of control.

ISIS is in control of large parts of Syria and Iraq.

For me, I will never understand the group’s reason why they are doing what they do. As

far as I know, ISIS is considered the world’s most dangerous jihadist terrorist entity which gives

a threat to global security and peace. Even though people have different religious beliefs, the

method that they use is still wrong. Human rights should not be neglected whatever happens.

With the strength that the group possess, it will be hard to stop them or even defeat the when a

fight occur. Many citizens are sacrificing their lives just to protect their loved ones from the

hands of ISIS. They always do things their way without thinking about the life of others and I

think that alone is already scary because we will never know the possibilities on what will

happen tomorrow. Acts of terrorism are not right and will always just bring harm to the people.

If doing this kind of things make the people involved in this satisfied then I will never consider

them as part of human beings. A great man won’t think of doing such things. We must try our

best in protecting one another from these kind of people. No one can tell when this will stop.
Conclusion

Islamic State in Iraq and al Sham also known as “ISIS” started in 2011 and up until now,

they are considered the most dangerous group because they are not just a threat to life but also to

the peace and order of a country. People involved are well trained and can easily adapt and

because of it, ISIS acts like a state which definitely they are not. ISIS main strength comes from

the wealth extracted from areas under its control to fund its fights. It will take a long time for this

problem to end for the people behind these acts won’t stop and looks like they will continue their

terrorism after the pandemic that is going on these days. It is devastating to know that thousands

of lives are ruined because of these individuals. The mistakes made last 2011 resulted to all of

the happenings for the last few years. This sad occasion must be ended before worse things

happen. Even with different beliefs, one should not violate human rights.
