Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo Reflection

The Philippine Revolution, a land mark event in our country’s history, a time that the
foundation of our sovereignty was being established and built by the very blood and sweat of
our forefathers. At the sharp spearhead of the Filipino revolutionists was the Katipunan, an
organization born from the disbandment of Rizal’s La Liga Filipina, and its Supremo Andres
Bonifacio, leading the charge in the battle for our nation’s freedom.The film Bonifacio: Ang
Unang Pangulo highlights the life of Andres Bonifacio, the events leading towards the
revolution and the founding of the Katipunan, and the subsequent events and downfall of the
organization and the Supremo. The film began with the execution of the GOMBURZA as a result
of a mutiny in Cavite and from there on, the film would transition from the past and present
era. What piqued my interest was that the endeavors of Bonifacio unfolded through the eyes of
the current generation. It shows how our heroes in the past fight for the freedom that they are
longed for. The story is more likely evolved in revolutionary acts of our fellow Filipinos. Filipinos
are fighting for the rights to live freely in their own land against the greediness in power of
Spaniards. Bonifacio, as known as the “Supremo” of Katipunan (Kataas-taasang Kagalang-
galangang Katipunan ng mga anak ng bayan or KKK) is the person who made the dream come
true to reclaimed the freedom that once belonged to us. The democracy that we are cherishing
right now is our debt to the Bonifacio and some heroes out there that showed heroism to our
country. The movie is reaching the Filipinos to give importance to love our own country.
Especially, nowadays that there are several problems arises in the state of politics. The
revolution is not yet done even in our present time. While there are some few good people,
there are still more corrupt and hungry officials setting in the golden chair of the government.
Hungry for the power and can easily turn their back to the responsibilities as well as to their
oath to the society and to the people for the sake of their own interests. If the situations will
not change and become worse, then the fight for the freedom is the only way. The burning
desires in every heart of Filipino’s are to attain and maintain the uprightness, truthfulness,
equality in rights, and most important is the people are free from any knot. If these values will
cause conflicts in their lives, it will result to a high pressure to ignite a fire. Then I can say that
revolution is indeed not done
