Compressed Air Storage Calculator
This program calculates the volume of air that could be
supplied by a tank in addition to the volume of air supplied
by a compressor(s).

Storage air can be used to reduce compressor's load/no-

load cycle frequencies as well as supplying short demand
spikes that require more air than a compressor(s) can
produce.

Compressor Size Required to Re-fill a Tank
The following calculates the volume-flow rate (CFM) that would need
to be supplied to a tank of known volume, to raise the pressure from
P1 to P2 in the specified period of time, t.

It should be noted that this equation assumes that no air leaves the
tank for the duration of the pump-up time.

Receiver Tank Size Estimate Calculator
This program estimates a receiver tank's size for tanks between 10 gallons and 3000 gallons

1) Tank Diameter OD = 7.8740 ft

2) Tank Height L = 24.2781 ft

3) Estimated Volume V= 8217 gal

4) "Normalized" Tank Size V= 3000 gal ###

Note: For best results if tank size is estimated in inches, use all four significant figures when entering feet.
Warning: This calculator is not suitable for engineering and design criteria. The calculator is provided to help estimate an existing tank size
when the tank nameplate fails to include the tank volume.
Formula was derived by Dan Kent (2/22/05) as follows:
1) Volume of cylinder = pi X D2 X L / 4
2) L used in the calculation of the cylinder volume assumes the actual cylinder height is 81% of the overall tank height
3) 1/2 the volume of a sphere = pi x D3 / 12 (rough estimate of the volume of tank end-bells)
4) Normalized tank size adjusts the estimated volume to a known typical tank size (based on Silvan Vertical Air Receiver Dimensions)
