INSTRUCTOR: DR. KITIABI SEPT-DEC 2017- 2018 SEMESTER

COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course is intended to be a continuation of Introduction to Management I. It is intended to examine
advanced aspects of Introduction to Management and business practice in particular to:-

1. Review the student understands of applications of management concepts, theories and practices learned
in Introduction to Management I.

2. Address contemporary Management challenges stemming from Human resource management issues
and modern approaches to finance, accounting and investment management and types of budgets

3. Help students understand some of the issues involved in operations management which includes
managing of organization’s processing elements so that they can be effective contributors to managing
organization’s resources

4. Enable the student understand the complexities and important features of the contemporary
Management issues in public and private firms / institutions

5. Enable the student understand how to participate in solving problems of operational and financial
management of organizations related to firms. It also equips students with basic principles of
Managerial practice and skills in Small Business and entrepreneurship, information technology,
investment Management, introduction to concepts of accounting and financial management

COURSE CONTENT

1. Introduction and General Overview


 Overview of Management global context; what are the outcomes of managerial practices
2. The importance of management functions
 Human Resource Management
 Leadership
3. Operations Management/Basic Accounting and Finance Concepts
 Work and organizational structures analysis, Operations Management,
 TQM, ISO,
 Time management
 Basic Accounting concepts and terminologies
 Introduction to Management of Financial statements and
 Budgetary Control Concepts
 Basic Accounting concepts & Systems that include what are statements and balance sheets, Ratios;
4. Introduction to Business & Investment Concepts
 What are Assets, and
 Return on Investment
 Cost benefit Analysis etc

5. Information and Technology Management Systems
 Effective management of information in organization.
 Types of Data, coding, storage and retrieval processes
6. Modern approaches to management that include;
 Changing organizational structures,
 Complex environmental conditions,
 Group dynamics,
 Business and Strategic Management,
 New technological developments;
 Managing Diverse workforces.
7. Environment and the future of the Global Management
 Power and politics in Management
 Social Corporate responsibility and Business Ethics,
 Corporate Governance
 Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship
METHODOLOGY
This will be conducted by formal lectures and discussions, case studies and situation analyses,
as well as examination and tests. Students are required to work in groups and make end of term
assignment presentations. Each class has to elect two class representatives who communicate
with the Professor

Mid Semester Examination 20 %
