Flood in Bandung

One of the problems that cannot be solved in Bandung is flood. According to Wikipedia,

flood is an overflow of water that drowns the normally dry land. Floods in Bandung have an

impact on several factors and have a considerable impact on local residents. As the consequence,

the community and government must work together to solve this problem. So, the people can

live comfortably in their own hometown, Bandung.

Floods can be caused by many factors. The factors can be from natural factors and human

factors. The natural factors are the condition of topography and intensity of rain. Topographical

conditions in Bandung area especially areas that are often flooded such as Baleendah,

Bojongsoang and Dayeuhkolot are lowlands, so the areas are often flooded. In addition, high

rainfall intensity during the rainy season in Bandung can overflow the river water. In addition to

natural factors, flood in Bandung is also affected by human factors, there are blockage of water

flow by garbage, a few of water absorption areas, and deforestation. Natural factors and human

factors that are the cause of flood should handled appropriately by the people and the

government.

Floods cause some major impacts to humans and their surroundings. It is likely that

floods cause damage to facilities and infrastructure such as destroying homes and buildings.
Floods with strong water flow can flooding of various valuable assets. Floods will also disrupt

daily activities such as teaching and learning activities in schools. Flood can cause the

emergence of many diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, various skin diseases, etc. Floods with

very strong water flow can take casualties. Based on these impacts, flood is very detrimental to

humans and their arround environment.

To solve the problem of flood in Bandung, the government has coordinated to find

solutions for all regions in Bandung. At present the government is building a retention pond

around the Citarum River as a first step. Retention pond is a tub or pond that can hold or absorb

the overflow water. After that, the government will also build a tunnel to accommodate high

rainfall. The tunnel that has been built at this time is nanjung tunnel in Margaasih District,

Bandung. Then the government also expanded Citarum River at several points in Bandung. The

government has been very optimal in dealing with this flood problem, but the government must

also get support from the people to make this program successful, such as don’t littering and

illegal logging.

Floods are natural disasters that often occur in Bandung. Factors that cause flooding in

Bandung can from natural factors and human factors. Floods can cause many adverse effects that

are very detrimental to humans. To overcome flooding, the government created retention ponds,

tunnels, and expand rivers. Government programs cannot run well without the support of the

people. Therefore, the people should help and support to make the government programs

success.
