Introduction

K to 12 (also K-12) is an education system under the

Department of Education that aims to enhance

learners’ basic skills, produce more competent

citizens, and prepare graduates for lifelong learning

and employment.“K” stands for Kindergarten and “12”

refers to the succeeding 12 years of basic education (6

years of elementary education, 4 years of junior high

school, and 2 years of senior high school). At present,

the Philippines is the last country in Asia and one of

only three countries in the world with a 10-year pre

university program.

It’s been a year since K-12 was proposed by the

Aquino administration and now being initiated by the

government. With the implementation of this education

system, The Philippines improves the compatibility of

the Filipino students and professionals around the

world. Improving the quality of education for global

competency really looks good, but the implementation of

the system will be a challenge for the government to

pursue. While K-12 prepares the student with skills

essential for the field of working, it will cost the

country a tidy sum of money.

According to some Filipino economists,” K-12 is a

must for our country, but sadly to say we are not yet

ready for it. The current condition of our education

sector makes it impractical. It will not make up to the

fact that our public schools are not fit for that

Education, increasing the number of years will not

make things better, it’ll just worsen things. ”In

answer to those negativities Sec. Armin Luistro said

“Indeed, DepEd is in lack in budget for the

implementation of K-12 but increasing the budget of the

government on education can resolve this issue. ”There

is no harm in a society prioritizing education of its

people, for Education is one of the essentials of an

effective society, he added.Sen. Vicente Sotto said ”

The Department of Education must first fill out its

gaps and deficiencies. There are many things that is

needed to consider, before even trying to adopt a new

system.”

We know the point that the government of our nation

is not yet ready for this curriculum, but still they

are trying to reach out the quality of education of our

country. Even we experience the lack of classrooms and

its materials they still give a solution to have this

curriculum that can help to improve the quality of

education in this country. Nowadays the government

experience difficultness in this new basis of education

because of the shortage of funds, that they can’t

sustain the needs of the teachers ,students and also

the schools. So we can say that the preparedness of the

government in this society is still in progress.
