gkady says: Hello Everyone....
gkady says: Due to some technical prolems, it is taking some time
amakum says to admin1: Hiii
gkady says: Moderator is having some issues
gkady says: k
gkady says: Before starting with the chat, I would like to welcome you all for t
he Chat on HACMP
gkady says: High Availibility Cluster Multi-Processing
mkumar66 says: What is powerha and why customer use it ?
gkady says: Basically, powerha is High Availibility for the POWER machines
gkady says: It is being wildely used because it eliminates SPOF (Single point of
faliure) for theapplications and also provide multi processing
gkady says: In todays world, its very important to eliminate any faliure/outage.
..and we can achieve it through HACMP
amakum says to admin1: Its to avoid SPOF
gkady says: yup
avinara says: Hi, am new to this topic, Just taught of gaining some knowledge. C
ould you pls tell what, where & how it is used in basic?
gkady says: In a lay man terms, I can tell you that in HACMP, we have one main n
ode on which all the applications are running and we have a standby node...If ou
r main node goes down due to some reason, all the resources are shifted to the s
tandby node and now the application can run through the standby node
gkady says: Its not necessary to have only two node cluster, we can have multipl
e node cluster as well
mkumar66 says: What are the major componets of HACMP
gkady says: HACMP is implemented at almost every site and in every industry as w
e can avoid outages with the help of this
ashjosh says: In case i wanna setup HACMP between LPARs , do i need to install H
ACMP on LPARs OS or P-Series Basic OS??
sgvsn says: will the majoy number will play a vital role in failover
gkady says: The components of HACMP are : 1)Resource Group....2)Service IP...3)A
pplication Servers
gkady says: There are many more components as well
gkady says: Like the shared Volume group
amakum says to admin1: I have one question about heartbeat configuration?
gkady says: sure...go ahead
ashjosh says: In case i wanna setup HACMP between LPARs , do i need to install H
ACMP on LPARs OS or P-Series Basic OS??
ashjosh says: In case i wanna setup HACMP between LPARs , do i need to install H
ACMP on LPARs OS or P-Series Basic OS??
gkady says: we need to install hacmp on LPARs OS
gkady says: Because I believe LPAR itself is a seprate machine
gkady says: LPAR works as a seprate machine...so we need to install HACMP ot LPA
R level
amakum says to admin1: IMajor components are boot/service/persistance ip, LUNS,n
odes
amakum says to admin1: What is Fast failover?
gkady says: For Heartbeat...I would like to tell you all that its a very importa
nt component of HACMP
amakum says: What is Fast failover?
gkady says: Because its only through heart beat, both nodes communicate with eac
h other
mkumar66 says: How to identify vf /fs which is in control of HACMP ?
sushakum says: if you have to make a NFS,should we specify the server address so
mewhere or can we simply mount it?
amakum says: yes you can install HACMP fileset in LPAR
gkady says: yes
ompamra says: number of logical partitions can be created in a system.
gkady says: guys, this chat if for HACMP..n not for LPARs... {smile_smiley,smile
_smiley}
gkady says: SO lets stick to the topic
amakum says: What is Fast failover?
amakum says: What is Fast failover?
amakum says: I think we should more discussed on HACMP topic rather than LPARS a
s we have sortage of time..
amakum says: I think we should more discussed on HACMP topic rather than LPARS a

amakum says: I think we should more discussed on HACMP topic rather than LPARS a
s we have sortage of time..
amakum says: can any one explain "What is Fast failover?"
mkumar66 says: What is diff between standred path and extended path configuratio
n?
mkumar66 says: What is diff between standred path and extended path configuratio
n?
mkumar66 says: What is diff between standred path and extended path configuratio
n?
gkady says: Using Standard path, you can configure resource groups that make use
of basic management policies
gkady says: These policies are based on the three predefined types of startup, f
all-over, and fall-back policies: cascading, rotating, and concurrent
amakum says: Hi gkady please explain "What is Fast failover?"
gkady says: In extended path, we need to follow below steps:
mkumar66 says: What is "IT" and "setting time " attribute of custom RG policy ?
gkady says: Depending on the selection, you will see a screen titled Add a Casca
ding/Rotating/Concurrent/Custom Resource Group.
gkady says: The screen will only show options relevant to the type of the resour
ce group you selected
mkumar66 says: What is the limit of RG and NODE in HACMP?
shiumku says: Hi Gautam.. this is shishir .. I am very new to HACMP .... how can
we check that system is running as a HACMP
gkady says: We can have a maximum of 32 nodes in HACMP
gkady says: Hi Shishir, welcome to the chat
gkady says: We can check if 'cluster' daemon is running on the node of not
mkumar66 says: Why we use IPAT via aliasing and IPAT vai IP replacement ? which
is better and why?
gkady says: We also need to check for the concurrent volume groups as well
gkady says: We can go to smitty hacmp and check for the current state of HACMP
gkady says: in this we can come to know that Resource group is online on which n
ode of the cluster
amakum says: we can check through clstat command also\
gkady says: IP address takeover can be done in two ways...one by replacement and
another by aliasing
gkady says: First lets us discuss about IPAT with replacement
gkady says: In this, when HACP starts, the service IP will replace the boot ip o
f node 1 and boot ip of node one will replace the standy ip of node1
gkady says: If boot adapter goes down, then service ip will sit on standby adapt
er
gkady says: if both goes down of node 1, then service ip will replace the standb
y ip of node 2
shiumku says: okie
gkady says: In IPAT with Aliasing, when HACMP starts, the service IP will become
the alias of bootip of node 1
gkady says: if boot adapter goes down, the service ip will become the alias of s
tandby ip
gkady says: if both the adapters goes down of node 1, then service ip will alias
of any of the two ips (boot/standby) of node 2
amakum says: What is FFD?
gkady says: So by above analysis, we can easily say that IPAT with Aliasing is b
etter and is in use
gkady says: FFD is a fast faliure detection
gkady says: This can be detected/monitored via dist heartbeat topology
amakum says: wht is the benefit to it?
gkady says: It is important as with the help of this, we can detect the faliure
very quickly
amakum says: is it mendatory to be enable?
gkady says: Thats why its named as 'Fast'
gkady says: Its not mandatory, but it is always recommended
mkumar66 says: How to identify os vg/FS in hacmp control ?
gkady says: We can easily identify the control of Resouce Group via smitty
gkady says: hacmp
gkady says: We can also look for the service IP
amakum says: that vg will be enhanced concurrent
gkady says: The node on which we have service IP , the control will be with that
node
gkady says: N yes, the VG has to be enhanced concurent
STOMAR5 says: we are close to finish the chat...lets extend it by 5 mins more as
there was a delay in starting the chat...
STOMAR5 says: hi gautam..1 ques from my side as well .
STOMAR5 says: why do we need persistent ip
amakum says: Persistent ip can be accessible from outside eventough cluster is r
unning from another node
amakum says: For administration
gkady says: yes...that correct
amakum says: If your cluster id down & service ip is on another node then there
is only persisent ip through which u can access to that node..
STOMAR5 says: thanks amakum for clearing the doubt
amakum says: Gautam can you suggest how to enable FFD?
gkady says: Amakum, I need to check on this...I will get back to you on this
STOMAR5 says: by this...i think we can close the session...
STOMAR5 says: thanks gautam & everyone for joining...
STOMAR5 says: gautam is available.. at gautam.kadyan@wipro.com for any doubts
gkady says: Thanks everyone... {smile_smiley}
