1- OBJECT--
Calculate the heat by radiation from IC engine.
2- APPARATUS
Four cylinders,CM11 gasoline engine
3- THEORY
In the heat balance description, it is possible to observe that all the terms are known, except X
[kcal/h] which represents the engine heat loss by radiation and other causes at each rating, excluding
the heat loss at engine exhaust and in cooling water.
The term X hence includes:
- Heat loss by radiation.
- Heat loss in lubrication oil.
- Heat loss by other causes, such as convection, passive resistance, etc.
The components of the internal heat balance of an engine are shown in fig below:

2- ASSIGNMENTS
a) Plot radiation heat lost versus speed. Comment on the graph.
When we increase the speed the temperature of the engine will increase due to the
increasing in friction at between piston and cylinder which will increase the heat
loss by radiation.
I think there is some error in our engine reads because the efficiency is too low
and the heat loss by (Others) term is too high, but if this reads are true we have to
find the sources of losses other than what we calculated and discussed to rate this
engine and improve it.
