What is Multifactor Authentication?

Multifactor authentication adds a second layer of security to your online accounts. Verifying your
identity using a second factor (like your phone or other mobile device) prevents anyone but you from
logging in, even if they know your password.

Why Do I Need This?

Passwords are increasingly easy to compromise. They can often be stolen, guessed, or hacked — you
might not even know someone is accessing your account.
Multifactor authentication adds a second layer of security, keeping your account secure even if your
password is compromised. This second factor of authentication is separate and independent from your
username and password. Once enrolled, you can choose to use SMS, voice call, one-time passcode, the
Duo Mobile smartphone app, to verify your login.

No mobile phone? You can also use a landline or tablet.

You can link multiple devices to your account, so you can use your mobile phone and a landline.

How It Works

1. Open a web browser on your desktop or laptop computer

2. Go to https://www.office.com
3. Enter your username / password and login as usual
4. If you are a first-time-user click “Start Setup”

4. Choose Mobile Phone and click “Continue”

6. Type in your mobile phone number, click the verification check box, and click “Continue”

7. Select your phone type and click “Continue”

8. Follow the instructions to download the DUO Mobile app onto your phone and click “I have
DUO Mobile Installed”, when you are done.

9. Open the Duo Mobile app on your phone, tap the “+” button, and scan the QR code on the
screen to link your account. Once scanned and linked, you may click “Continue”.
10. Choose to repeat the enrollment process for an additional device, rename the existing
device (ex. Work Phone), or choose the default authentication devices and methods upon
login. It’s generally best to leave things default here. Click “Continue to Login” when
complete.
