speaking with?
Between Jacque and Jessica, there was not a word or statement that was not
understood by either of them. However, as to Derek, he did not understand the whole

communication was misunderstood.

2. What was the other speaker’s understanding of what was said?

Derek thought that Jacque was perhaps up to something to Jessica.

3. What do you think were the causes of the miscommunication?

The whole miscommunication was due to Jacque speaking in French and Jessica
speaking in French as well which led to Derek concluding that Jacque is up to
something to his girlfriend.

4. How was the miscommunication resolved?

The miscommunication was initially resolved when Jacque gave Derek a cheek to
cheek, a gesture common to French in greeting people.

5. What should have been done by each speaker to prevent the miscommunication?
Derek could have politely asked Jessica to translate for him their conversation.
Although, Jessica introduced both males to each other, however, the flowers, the
language, and the non-verbal communication by both Jacque and Jessica had all
made Derek confused.
