BS EN 1992-1-1:2004+A1:2014 Eurocode 2: Design of concrete structures.

General rules
and rules for buildings

What is BS EN 1992-1-1 and NA to BS EN 1992-1-1?

BS EN 1992-1-1 provides general rules for the design of structures in plain, reinforced and
prestressed concrete with specific rules for buildings.

The National Annex to BS EN 1992-1-1 provides UK decisions where national choice is allowed
and it is to be read in conjunction with BS EN 1992-1-1.

What is new?

BS EN 1992-1-1 contains updated rules relating to shear punching resistance and ductility
characteristics and also provides technical changes relating to limiting value of punching shear
capacity and creep in plain concrete walls and columns.

The National Annex to BS EN 1992-1-1 incorporates changes to National Determined

Parameters and also includes a new value for the punching shear resistance of slabs and column
bases with shear reinforcement. It explains UK’s particular requirements in relation to the areas
covered by BS EN 1992-1-1.

The NA to BS EN 1992-1-1 also holds changes to Table NA.1 and the ‘Recommended
values’ relating to BS EN 1992-1-1 and incorporates corrigenda January 2008, November 2010,
February 2014 and amendment A1:2014.

The previous version of this standard saw some errors relating to shear punching resistance and
ductility characteristics. As the CEN/TC 250 Structural Eurocodes Committee is preparing for
the next generation of Eurocodes, there is a need to ensure that the most up to date and
technically correct concrete Eurocode is on the market until 2020 (when the next generation of
Eurocodes will be launched). No other amendments will be permitted in this time.

Who should use BS EN 1992-1-1 and NA to BS EN 1992-1-1?

BS EN 1992-1-1 is an essential tool for both designers and the concrete industry, enabling them
to use the most up to date concrete Eurocode and corresponding National Annex.
