I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Cycle Alerts is a new alert system for cyclists that can be attached to any bicycles that

displays signals and signs for vehicles to be aware of what cyclists are going to do next

on the road. It includes many different signs like the left turn signal, the right turn signal,

a stop sign, a hazard sign, and many more. These signals allow nearby vehicles and

drivers to stay alert and aware about the intentions of the cyclists who are sharing the

roads with them. Not only does Cycle Alerts display all these signs, it also glows in the

dark so that cyclists can ride on the road during the night time as well. All of these new

features that are incorporated with the product allow for cyclists to be on even terms with

cars and drivers instead of being at a disadvantage without Cycle Alerts. The number

one problem that Cycle Alerts is solving is cyclists and bicycles don’t have the same

features as car, so they aren’t as effective on the road. When a cyclist isn’t able to show

other vehicles about where they are going next, it creates confusion and there is a

higher chance of an accident occurring on the road, like a car hitting a cyclist and

injuring them. Having Cycle Alerts attached to your bicycle reduces the chances of you

getting hit by another vehicle and getting injured in the process. This product actually

increases your safety overall. There are specific features of the product that separate it

from the little competition that already exists like how the product glows in the dark and

allows cyclists to ride on the roads at night. There is a big market for a product like this

with over 40 million customers in just the US alone. The amount of cyclists that live in

places without sidewalks or bike lanes or paths is a great amount of cyclists that

currently reside in the US. Analyzing all the data surrounding all the different aspects of

this type of business shows that it can be successful and sell very much.

II. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Grayson Garrett

Cycle Alerts is an attachable device that attaches to a bicycle and tells drivers on the

road what the cyclists plans to do. It includes turn signals, stop signs, and many different

signs that are projected in the back of the bicycle so that cars and drivers are aware of

the cyclist’s intentions on the road. If the cyclist wanted to go left, then a left turn signal

would be projected on the back of the bicycle and all surrounding vehicles would see it.

If the cyclist wanted to stop, then a stop sign would be projected onto the back of the

bicycle. There are many other things that can be projected onto the back of the bicycle

that includes a left turn signal, a right turn signal, a stop sign, a hazard sign, and more.

III. PROBLEM

Cyclists don’t have the same features as a car so they are more at risk on the road.

Drivers don’t pay enough attention to cyclists on the road. Cyclists are more likely to get

hit by a vehicle when on main roads. Around 900 cyclists are killed every year due to

traffic crashes. When crashes occur between cyclists and vehicles, it is the cyclist who is

more likely to be injured as a result.

IV. SOLUTIONS

Cycle Alerts has the signals and signs that allow drivers to be more aware at what the

cyclist is going to do next which solves the problem of cyclists not have the same

features as cars on the road. To solve the problem about drivers not paying enough

attention to cyclists on the road, the signals will glow in the dark and be very bright so

the cars can’t miss it. Now instead of just being a normal bike, it has signals and signs

that lowers the chances of them getting hit by a vehicle and getting injured as a result.

V. CUSTOMER SEGMENTS

The target customers would be cyclists who ride on the roads. People who usually live in

places that don’t have sidewalks or bike lanes, so they have to ride their bikes on the

road. It would also pertain to cyclists ride on roads that are more populated with cars and

need to have signals to keep drivers aware of them and where they are going.

VI. UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION

My product is different because it glows in the dark, bright, and has more features for

signals with diagrams. The benefits to the customer is that it improves their safety while

riding on the road.

VII. MARKET ANALYSIS AND COMPETITION

The target customers would be cyclists who ride on the roads and live in more populated

areas where sidewalks and bike paths are available. According to Statista, there are

currently around 45 million cyclists in the USA. Each cyclist would most likely buy one

product for all of their bikes. Some people might buy more than one for multiple bikes.

Currently the only main competitor is FINDANOR who sells something similar, but is only

for left and right turns and doesn’t have diagrams for signals.

VIII. COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

It cannot be easily copied because it has specific diagram images that relate to each

signal and requires extra work to be made. My product is different from competitors

because it does more than just signal left and right, it has diagram images for signals

and is bright during night time as well. My product offers customers ways to improve

their safety as reasonably low price while still being able to ride their bikes on the road.

IX. COST AND REVENUE STRUCTURE

Grayson Garrett

The costs associated with the creation of the product are factors such as labor costs,

electronic component costs, and the cost of materials like the plastic border. Cycle Alerts

will be sold for $40 per unit. Competitors charge around $35, but are way less advanced

and safe. They don’t have diagrams for signals, are only left and right turn signals, and

they aren’t very bright in the dark. The heaviest sales months will most likely be around

fall time when the weather is good enough to bike everywhere, everyday and when it’s

not too cold. Yes there could be repeat business if a customer wanted a product for each

of their bikes.

X. KEY METRICS

How many units sold compared to the cost of products can be measured to measure

success of the business. I will know if I have succeeded or failed based on profit

margins. Two key metrics would be net income and monthly purchases to measure how

successful the business is. If the net income is positive then the business is making a

profit and is doing well. If the monthly are increasing each month then the business’

popularity is rising and it is becoming more and more successful.

XI. CONCLUSION

Cycle Alerts is a new, innovative product that makes the world a safer place for

everyone. Cyclists can now ride alongside vehicles on the road without always having to

look over their shoulder. Drivers can now be more aware of cyclists around them and not

always have to look at cyclists as a mystery about what they are going to do next or

where they are going to go next. At the end of the day, Cycle Alerts is a reasonably low

price of $40 that can be used over and over for cyclists and attached to many bikes that

allows the road to be a little more safer.
