Planning for presentation – This is: Frank Ocean

Idea

My idea for my presentation role on NWRC TV is to start a television segment talking about my
favourite pieces of music and explaining them to the audience. Music is something I care about
deeply and feel as if it would be a better fit than anything else for me to articulate my thoughts and
make the best possible product I can.

Research – This is: Frank Ocean

Early career

 Raised in New Orleans, United States.

 In his youth, he was very inspired by the jazz culture of the city.

 Left New Orleans because of the damages done by Hurricane Katrina and headed to Los
Angeles with little to no money.

 Joined Odd Future with Tyler, the Creator and a list of other artists and creatives.

 His debut Mixtape came out in 2011 and was an underground viral success.
Debut Album

 Debut album next year – Channel Orange which was a smash hit

 Frank mostly produced it himself with small help from artists like Pharell

 The lyrics are more complex and intimate than most mainstream pop/rnb music

 Won a Grammy in 2012 for best Urban contemporary album

 Frank took a hiatus because of problems with his label

 From 2013 – 2016, there was radio silence from Frank.

His return

 In July 2016, after years of rumours, a new album was confirmed to exist. It’s name was
‘Boys don’t cry’.

 Instead of that album, Frank begun to host livestreams playing snippets of new music while
he built a staircase. It was weird.

 That livestream became a visual album called ‘Endless’.

 The next day, the album that everyone thought would be called Boys don’t cry was released
but it was titled ‘Blonde’

 It was praised as a masterpiece

 Frank disappeared once more, refusing to take interviews or submit it for grammys

Frank’s Future

 We are now in a period of waiting for Frank’s next album, yet this time we have gotten a few
singles to make the wait less dreadful

 Has been featured on a couple of songs since then, most notably Travis Scott’s ‘Carousel’

 Frank’s latest songs, Dear April and Cayendo, came just a few months ago, meaning the
album might be closer than we think it is.

 Proven himself as one of the best of our generation.
