Introduction to Coding in JavaScript 
BOSTON - SAN FRANCISCO - ONLINE 

Overview 
This ​4-week course​ teaches fundamentals of programming with an emphasis on coding for the web. After the course, you’ll be able to:  

● Build a simple front-end for a dynamic web application that ​loads data from an API​. 
● Think algorithmically and ​problem solve like a programmer​. 
● Communicate more effectively​ with your technical co-workers. 
● Start automating some of your repetitive tasks at work. 

Note: If you're looking for a slightly longer course with more time dedicated to front-end web development and coding bootcamp 
preparation, you might consider the 8-week ​Bootcamp Prep​ course. 

Curriculum  Format & Time Commitment 


Primary topics covered throughout the course:   Structured format for supporting success: 
● Class 1:​ Intro, Arrays, Loops  ● 8 classes over 4 weeks 
● Class 2​: Objects / Dictionaries  ● Meet in-person or online ​twice weekly in the evenings 
● Class 3:​ Functions  from 6:30pm - 9:30pm (​6 hr / week​) 
● Class 4:​ Problem Solving & Algorithms  ● 1 weekly ​1-1 mentoring​ session (​1 hr / week​) 
● Class 5:​ Scope  ● Online ​problem sets​ between classes (​5 hr / week)​  
● Class 6:​ Higher Order Programming  ● Live support​ in a class chatroom on Slack 
● Class 7:​ HTML, CSS, DOM Querying  ● Lifetime access to the FSC alumni network 
● Class 8:​ Events, JSON APIs

Teaching Philosophy  Prerequisites
These conditions facilitate an ideal learning environment:  No prior coding experience is required​, but you must be 
● Small classes with ​6:1 learner:teacher ratio in-person​ or  comfortable using a computer. 
8:1 online   
● Weekly ​1:1 mentoring​ time  You may be asked to complete a brief assessment if you don’t 
● Live classes ​in-person and online  regularly use a computer at school or work. 
● Pair programming​ in every class 
● Demos followed by practice instead of long lectures

Our courses focus on the introductory level, but we have partnerships with a select group of coding schools that offer advanced options.
