Overview Students will learn about the lives of three American Indian cultures and be able
to compare how they lived and their contributions.
History and Social Science Standards of Learning
History 2.3 The student will compare the lives and contributions of three
Standards of American Indian cultures of the past and present, with emphasis on
Learning a) the Powhatan of the Eastern Woodlands;
b) the Lakota of the Plains; and
c) the Pueblo peoples of the Southwest.
What are key vocab terms in understanding the lives of these cultures? ex: the
regions, each of the culture names, etc.
Essential Questions What did each of the cultures contribute?
What were their lives like?
What regions did they live in?
Students will be able to…
Accurately describe and explain the livelihoods of three American Indian
Objectives cultures.
Distinguish between said cultures with identifying features.
Provide descriptions of them and their contributions.
I will be able to compare and tell about the lives and contributions of the
Learning Target Powhatan, Lakota, and Pueblo American Indian cultures.
Necessary Prior Knowing the locations and regions of the U.S.
Any kind of prior information about the cultures will be helpful and beneficial
Knowledge to the student.

Plains: flat land in the middle region of the country
Southwest: Southwestern part of the country
Each of the cultures: Lakota, Pueblo, and Powhatan
There are multiple assessments embedded in one of the instructional activity
Assessments links. It will be good and formative for the student as it is not labeled as
“assessment” or “quiz” as not to stress them out, especially during this time.
