Dear Friend,
Greetings to you from everyone at the Full Gospel Lighthouse
Church in Torrington, CT. One of the greatest subjects of all time: the
birth of our Lord Jesus Christ is remembered this month. One of my favorite accounts is
found in Luke 2:10 & 11: “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I
bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is
born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” The Lord
did not come because of anything people had done. He initiated good news to the
human race because of His great love for us. I have found that God has His own way of
doing things, His own time-table for accomplishing His purpose, and His own reasons
for everything under the sun. His salvation plan is bigger than you and me!
These shepherds were just common men, yet that did not stop the Lord from
visiting them! What can stop God from speaking to your heart today? The only thing
that hinders the Lord from talking to you is you! These shepherds were awake in the
fields, watching their flocks when the angel came to them. I believe wherever you are,
no matter what condition you are in, regardless of your present circumstances, the Lord
wants to get your attention! If our hearts are open to Him and we are looking for Him,
He will come to us. Maybe He is speaking to your heart as you read this newsletter!
There was a message given to these lowly shepherds that night: “For unto you is
born this day…a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Church history tells us that over
400 years had passed since the last Old Testament prophet, Malachi, had brought a word
from heaven. You may think that God doesn’t speak to His people any more, and if so,
it would be to some important minister or bishop or priest. But what if the Lord wants to
share with you today a message of His salvation? What would you do if the Lord
desired to touch YOU? What would you think then? His grace is still amazing, that He
would visit us on a personal level and reveal to us His purpose and will. It still amazes
me when He inspires His Word into my heart and I sense the presence of His Holy
Spirit. Great joy still floods my soul when I hear that still small voice speaking to my
heart. He comes to me especially when things aren’t going so good and I need an
answer from Him. Jesus Christ is always there for us! He isn’t just a Saviour who
rescues us from time to time when we are in trouble. He is Lord to those who make Him
Lord and He never forsakes His own! I believe these shepherds made the Almighty their
Lord and the message was given to them because they were His people!
“Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to
all people.” My mom was a teacher for many years and she taught me that the word
“all” means everyone is included. God’s message was not limited to a few lowly
shepherds that dark night many years ago. The message is still the same because it was
given to them to tell everyone that God so loved the world He gave a Saviour, which is
Christ the Lord! When Jesus Christ comes into your heart and delivers you from the
curse of sin, great joy will flood your soul! Whether Jewish or Gentile, whether bond or
free, whether male or female, or young or old, this message of God’s salvation is to all
people. Great joy can be yours today and every day when you open your heart and allow
the Lord to come in and take your sins away. It sounds almost too simple, yet there it is
in Scripture for us to receive and believe.
So powerful was this message that other angels couldn’t hold back from praising
God, too! “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good
will toward men” (Luke 2:13 & 14). This message of salvation is not limited to men of
good will, as some versions erroneously translate. This message of good will from God
is extended toward all men: even you! We’re so used to bad things happening and
fearful things coming to the world that we fail to realize God has good will toward us
every day. That is His thought toward humanity. He so loves us that He gave His best
for us. This Christmas can be the best one you ever had if you will open your heart and
receive Christ Jesus the Lord! Don’t let “things” you get or don’t get ruin your
Christmas because that has nothing to do with what this day is about. It’s all about God
loving you and me so much that Christ Jesus the Lord came into the world to save your
soul, your marriage, your family, your loved ones, you very life! Give Him your heart
today: you will never regret it!
