GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Write your answer in one whole sheet of paper and
take a picture of it (make sure that picture/s is/are clear as your future) or
type your answer on your phone or laptop then send it to me thru personal
message on messenger. Every Friday 7:30 am-5:00 pm is the deadline of all your
passing of your activities in a week.
Activity 1
Revision of < and > symbols
Directions:The table below contains a number of inequalities. In the space
provided, indicate which are true and which are false.
Inequality- is a statement that one quantity is greater than or less than another. (-less than, -greater than,
-less than or equal to, -greater than or equal to).

PROPERTIES OF INEQUALITY

1. For all real numbers p and q where p > 0, q > 0: (Symmetric Property of inequality)

a. If p > q, then q < p.

Examples: 1. p= 3 x+ 4 q=5 x+ 23 x +4 >5 x+2

3 x−5 x> 2−4 Combine like terms

−2 x>−2 Perform the operation

−2 x −2
> Divide by -2
−2 −2
Simplify (apply the rule of inequality that when a
x <1 variable is negative then inequality sign changes.)
x <1 (the Values of x are those number less than 1)

x=0 - - - 3(0)+ 4>5 (0)+ 2 - - If 4 >2, then 2< 4.

Try to answer the following: 1. 3 x−1> x +32. 11+3 x >2 x−4

b. If p < q, then q > p.

Examples: 1. p= x +4 q=5 x+ 2 x +4 <5 x+ 2

x−5 x <2−4 Combine like terms

−4 x>−2 Perform the operation

−4 x −2
< Divide by -4
−4 −4

x> Simplify (apply the rule of inequality that when a
2
variable is negative then inequality sign changes.)
1 1
x > (the Values of x are those number greater than )
2 2

x=1 - - - 1+4 <5(1)+2 - - -1+4 <5+2If 5<7 , then 7>5 .

Try to answer the following: 1. x−1< x +3 2. 4 +3 x< 6 x+ 4

2. For all real numbers p, q, r and s, if p > q and r ≥ s, then p + r > q + s. (Addition Property of Inequality)

Examples: 1. p= 5, q=3, r=2, s=1 - - - If 5>3∧2≥ 1 ,then 5+2>3+1

2. p= 10, q=7, r=5, s=4 - - - If 10>7∧5 ≥ 4 , then10+5>7+ 4

3. For all real numbers p, q and r, if p > q and r > 0, then pr> qr. (Multiplication Property of Inequality)

Examples: 1. p= 5, q=3, r=2, - - - If 5>3∧2>0 , then5(2)>3(1).- - - 10>3 .

2. p= 10, q=7, r=5, - - - If 10>7∧5>0 , then10(5)>7( 4). - - - 50>28 .

4. For all real numbers p, q and r, if p > q and q > r, then p > r. (Transitive Property of Inequality)

Examples: 1. p= 5, q=3, r=2, - - - If 5>3∧3>2 ,then 5>2.

2. p= 10, q=7, r=5, - - - If 10>7∧5>0 , then10>5 .

3. −5 x< 10
4. −3 x−5>−6 x + 4
x+1
5. >2 x +5

6. 7 x−5<3 x +7
7. 3 x+ 4−5 x>−2
8. 6 x−4> x +6

LEARNING TARGETS: Lesson 2 – Triangle Inequality
In these lessons you will learn to:
-Define triangle inequality
-Differentiate parallel from perpendicular lines.
-Proves properties of parallel lines cut by a transversal.
-Determines the conditions under which lines and segments are parallel or perpendicular.

Example:

Solution: Given: m1= 126m4= 180−126 Adjacent angles/ linear pair are
Find: 2, 3 and 4.m4= 54 supplementary or equal to 180.
m2+ m3= m1
Exterior angle theorem
m2+ m3=126
m2= 126- m3
Transpose
m= 126- m2

Apply Exterior Angle Theorem
If 1 is an exterior angle, then
m1 m2
m1 m3

Examples: Identify if the following sides can form a triangle.

a.3,4 and 5 Since AB+BCAC,3+ 4>5 - - - 7>5 ,

AC+CBAB, 5+ 4>3 - - - 9>3 , and

AB+ACBC,3+5> 4 - - - 8> 4

b. 6,7,11 Since AB+BCAC, 6+7 >11 - - - 13>11,

AC+CBAB, 11+7> ¿6- - - 18>6 , and

AB+ACBC,6+11>7- - - 17>7

c.3, 4 and 7 Since AB+BCAC, 3+ 4>7 - - - 7>7 , -FALSE

AC+CBAB, 7+ 4>¿ 3- - - 11>3 , and

AB+ACBC,3+7> 4 - - - 11> 4

TAKE NOTE: If one condition does not satisfy or false they cannot form a triangle.

Activity 3
Directions: Identify if the following sides can form a triangle.
1. 3,6,9
2. 3,4, and 8
3.28,34,39
4. 3,4 and x
