Intern Name: Nayo G.

Topic/Title of Lesson: The Earth’s Patterns and How it may change Grade: 5th grade Length of Lesson: 50
mins. Can be moved into next class period if needed

LESSON PLAN
In this lesson…
Students will create a presentation with their group that will show their
Overview understanding of the layers of the Earth, Plate Tectonics, and Weathering and
Erosion.
Standards of SCI 5.7: The students will investigate and understand how Earth’s surface is
constantly changing .
Learning
What does each of the earth’s layers consist of ? ( The basics)
What happens when plate tectonics collide ?
Essential Questions Explain what weathering and erosion are caused from ?

Students will be able to…

● Gain and show their mastery on the different concepts.
Objectives ● Students will gain team building skills

Necessary Prior Students will need to know the names of each layer that make up the earth’s
structure. Also, having knowledge that some natural disasters are a result of the
Knowledge plate tectonics shifting.
Key Vocabulary Crust, Mantle, Core, Weathering, Erosion
or Concepts
● ChromeBooks- so students can watch the introductory video on their
Materials topic and either create their presentation on.
Needed ● Trifold - if the group chooses to use it, it will be provided as well as
construction paper,color pencils, and markers.
When the students get to class they will pick a slip of paper out of a bucket. In
Introduction/ this bucket will be the three topics they will have to gain knowledge on.
Whichever slip they choose they have to get into a group with their classmates
Hook who have the same topic and watch the video that correlates with it .
.
1. After each group watches the video on their topic, they will fill out the
Frayer Model Diagram together to show their understanding as well as
the knowledge they gained from the video.
2. When the Diagram is completed, each group will gather their
Instructional information and create a presentation that they will share to the class.
** When filling out the diagram students will have to define what their topic is,
Activities and give (in detail) what each topic consists of to the best of their ability.
**Even though each individual group may have the same information on their
paper, each student will leave the “non-example” box blank so they can fill in
new information about the topics they didn’t know.

Each of the three groups will place their trifold board or their ChromeBooks
Closure Activity around the room so each student can go around at their own pace and write
what they didn’t know about the topic.
Accommodations Provide extra time for students who don’t finish.
The Assessment will be watching the students go around the room and write
Assessments what they have learned from each presentation.
