Before You Begin

Before You Begin

Pay Attention: If you receive for a replacement


more than one HDD, you must replace all drives and
not just the faulty one.

Determine which of the disk drives has failed as follows:


1. Run the command
impctl platform storage raid adaptec arcconf
getconfig 1
2. Under the Logical device information section, review the
Logical device segment information section to determine the
faulty HDD.
For example:

Replacement Disk Drive

For an appliance with two HDDs, Connector 0 and Device 0


means the upper HDD and Connector 0 and Device 1 means the
lower HDD.
For an appliance with three HDDs, Connector 0 and Device 0
means the upper left HDD, Connector 0 and Device 1 means the
lower left HDD and Connector 0 and Device 2 means the upper
right HDD.

Replacement Disk Drive

If one of the disk drive fails, you can replace it while the appliance is
running.

Obtaining a Replacement Disk Drive


To obtain a replacement disk drive, contact Imperva support.

Preparing the Appliance


The disk drives are hot-swappable. There is no need to power down
the appliance before replacing one of the disk drives.

Removing a Disk Drive


Before removing a disk drive, determine which unit is not
functioning properly. Be sure you are removing the correct unit.
To remove a disk drive:
1. Push the drive tray’s latch to the left.
2. Swing the door open.

3. Pull the drive tray out.

4. Remove the four screws on the bottom of the drive tray.

5. Lift the the hard disk out of the tray.


6. Insert the replacement hard disk into the tray.
7. Secure the hard disk in the tray with the four screws that you
removed in step 4.

Installing a Disk Drive


To install a disk drive:
1. Slide the disk drive tray into the slot until you hear it click into
place.
2. Make sure the tray’s latch is fully closed.
3. The RAID re-build process begins after approximately one
minute, in the course of which, the contents of the two disks
are synchronized. This process may take several hours.
4. During the process, you can run the command
impctl platform storage raid adaptec arcconf
getconfig 1
to see the State of the disk, which should be Rebuilding (see
example below).

5. Run the command


impctl platform storage raid adaptec arcconf
getstatus 1
to see the Status of the rebuild process (see example below).

6. When the rebuild process finishes run the command


impctl platform storage raid adaptec arcconf
getconfig 1
to see the Status of logical device of the disk, which should be
Optimal (see example below).
