GOOD HEALTH AND WELLBEING

ENSURE HEALTHY LIVES AND PROMOTE WELL-BEING FOR ALL AT ALL AGES USING
PLANT MEDICINE

All of us human know exactly when it comes to health wellbeing because it is the most important thing
which concerning the lives of people either they will live, die or have long term sickness. When we are
not well in our health and wellbeing, it affects everything we do in a negative ways. We all know how
important it is to be in good health. Our health affects everything from how much we enjoy life to what
work we can perform. That’s why there’s a Goal to make sure everyone has health coverage and access
to safe and effective medicines and vaccines.

My goal is to become a plant scientist to develop new medicine that can help sustain the lively hood of
the people of Papua New Guinea and around the world. I want to become a scientist to invent
medicines using our natural resource in particular the natural plants of Papua New Guinea for medical
use. I will be doing research on some sickness that is currently affecting the people around the world
and in PNG.

Plants that possess therapeutic or exert pharmacological effects on human body are formally designated
as medical plants. The natural forest of PNG is filled with astonishing exotic species and creatures that
are not yet discovered by scientist. Our forest have many plants and some of this plants were used to
make medicine both industrial by scientist and traditionally used by local people. Some other parts of
the world have natural environment that are unique as well and needs more research to be done.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), about 70 percent of the world’s population relies on
plants for their primary health care and some 35,000 to 70,000 species has been used as medicaments,
a figure corresponding to 14-28% of the 250,000 plants species estimated to occur around the world [1-
3], and equivalent to 35-70% of all species used world-wide [3]. In today’s global market, more than 50
major drugs originated from tropical plants [4].

With that in mind the research that will be done on the plants will certainly improve the lives of many
people around the world and in PNG as well. Some people around the world are dying from diseases
that have no cure or insufficient cure. That area needs to be dealt accordingly by increasing the number
of research and experiments to reduce the number of people dying and ensure healthy lives and well-
being is promoted at all ages

People are dying every now and then due to health problems because of their lifestyle, inheritance from
parents, or the environmental factor. This is serious because great number of people died and have long
term sickness which prevents them from participating successfully in their work or school which will ha e
impacts of their economy throughout the world.

As for me personally I want to become a researcher for plants to be used on medical purposes so that it
will help the world achieved the vision 2030 of health and wellbeing.
