Summary
Introduction
As part of the inspection pre-qualification requirements for building and civil construction contractors, Sisekelo
Mbata received a formal request by the client to undertake a site inspection. This inspection focused the
foundations and concrete works done by contractors following the work given to them by the client.
Findings
Category 1: General Foundations
The foundations have been poorly constructed and impose high risk as they are not suitable to
withstand the imposed loads of the structure. A DCP test could not be conducted due to the
roughness of the hole and surface.
Category 2: Segregation
There is too much segregation, high chances is that it may have been caused by poorly graded
aggregate and excessive water content.
Category 3: Soil.
The soil, in the Dalpark and surrounding areas is found to be collapsible, therefore stabilizing
the invert levels was necessary with adequate reinforcing bars. No evidence to support that this
was done was provided to us nor is it visible on site.
Category 5: Concrete.
There is evidence on site that proves that concrete was mixed on site, therefore possibilities of
poorly grading the aggregate as well as using excessive water is highly likely making the
concrete itself weak.
Category 5 Concrete REDO with correct mixing rations or get ready mix concrete
supplied.
