For midterm:

Create a 5 minute video clip be uploaded to the group chat on the topic ethics, your discussion should
be guided by the 8 questions. No need to answer it item by item. On or before May 5 will be the
submission

Good Day! We are tasked to create a 5 minute video clip about our subject ECE Law, Contracts, and
Ethics. This is my insights and opinions in the following questions that we are asked about.

1. How can you determine if an act is ethical or not?

In my opinion you can determine if an act is ethical or not by many factors like religion, belief,
principles, cultures, and etc. but for some people an ethical act is where they do things if it doesn’t
break on the factors said above. In the work place certain companies states their own code of ethics to
their employee to follow these set of rules and instructions so that their mission, vision, and core values
can be executed throughout their legacy

There are many theories about ethics that are mostly being thought in our Christian Education
like the Duty based theory where the morality is based on duty and the Utilitarian Theory where is your
morality is tied with the common good.

So in my opinion to determine if an act is ethical or not if it doesn’t break their beliefs, and
principles about life they we can say that it is ethical.

2. Why do engineers need to practice ethics, how does it benefit the profession and the public as a
whole?

Engineers need to practice ethics in their field because of the set of standards in their
profession. Engineers are expected to exhibit the highest standard of honesty and integrity in their work
in the RA 9292 Section 30 it states that we need to practice the code of ethics and standards of practice
in our work.

This benefits us on our practice as an engineer and to protect the public, if we don’t follow the
norm or the standard in our field, it’s like that we don’t know the positive or negative of the battery and
it can create problems in the field and co workers. (section 39)

3. Can an act be legal, while unethical or are there acts that are ethical but can be considered illegal,
explain your position using examples.

Yes an act can be legal while unethical, for example cheating on your husband or wife can be
legal while it is considered as unethical also lying can be legal but also unethical. In the side of ethical
but can be considered illegal maybe is standing to the unright laws and justices in our country like civil
disobedience to unjust laws.
4. On your point of view can morals dictate ethics?

Yes because basically morals are the basis of ethics of a certain person it is what they believe in
and how the environments affects them so in my point of view morals can dictate ethics.

5. What are the dilemma that an engineer may face with respect to his profession, the environment,
engineering community and demands of the job that the employer has tasked him to do?

1.) deciding on what design to use, engineers do consider different approach to different
situations, for example civil engineers construction of roads that can affect the settlements of some
people.

2.) the cost of the equipments, parts and other considerations that requires money, this is a very
hard situation depends on his employer

3.) executions and tasking of manpower in certain plans also can situate a dilemma to an
engineer

6. In the digital age, how can ethics for engineers enforced on collaborative works that span nations
around the globe with differing culture and perspective?

Many international standards such as ITU – T, NTSC, SECAM, PAL, IEEE, and other standards are
implemented in the other countries, here in the so called 4 th industrial revolution Institute of engineers
conducts standardization in the world they conduct seminars, trainings and other materials to achieve a
collaborative works in the engineering professions.

7. What are the possible risks and ethical problems that can surface in bionics, and genetic engineering?

I think some risks and ethical problems that can surface are that the religion and belief, there
are different views on this topic. Genetic engineering can alter your dna or what makes you as a person
they can manipulate this and also can create another clone of you just by your dna, some groups such
as religious groups are not okay for this because of their different beliefs and ethics. also bionics some
people believe that God given bodies are irreplaceable.

8. As Engineers, how is it relevant that Ethics be practiced by all professional for the survival of the
Engineering profession?

It is relevant to follow the code of ethics be practice for the survival o the engineering
profession because we are demanded by our nation to follow the set of rules to achieve the perfect
figure of what an engineer to be. It is important for us to achieve this kinds of expectancy because we
engineers are one of the foundations that builds this nation and we must always protect and follow the
rules of our profession after all we Engineers and engineers to be are the frontliners when it comes to
bringing transformation in our society for the greater good.
