No volveremos a ver Lo Mundo
como era antes de la pandemia. Cuando digo
Lo mundo distancio mi cuerpo de lo físico que
habita lo externo. En efecto, las vivencias serán
recibidas con nuevos órganos, experiencias
solidificadas en nosotros. Esta revista incluye
una entrevista hecha a distancia y todos los
trabajos incluidos se compilaron desde lo
virtual. Nuestro cuerpo ahora habita y crea Lo
Mundo desde lo virtual.

We will not see The World
as it was before the pandemic. By
saying The World, I separate my
body from the physical that inhabits
the outside. In fact, experiences
will be received by new organs as

La pintura como necesidad espontánea / Painting as a Spontaneous Need.
Nuestro editor Danthe The Nad realizó
una entrevista para Revista Sapo Graph a
Yayá, para los amigos, Soledad Wipe. Ella es
una artista autodidacta chilena con raíces
árabes, odontóloga de profesión y artista
de corazón. En esta exclusiva, nos contó lo
siguiente:
Me gustaría empezar con esta mezcla que
tienes de odontóloga y artista. ¿Cómo se
juntan estas disciplinas?
“Pienso que son disciplinas que están
vinculadas porque en odontología, a pesar
de que es un área científica, uno necesita
demasiada motricidad y tener un lado
artístico muy potente. Esta similitud fue
una de las razones que me llevó a elegir esta
carrera, ya que complementa mi pasión por
la biología y el arte,

Yayá, and for Sapo Graph magazine. She is a
self-taught Chilean artist with Arabic roots.
A dentist by profession and an artist at heart.
In this exclusive, he told us the following:
I would like to start with your mixing
talents: an odontologist and an artist.
How do you combine these disciplines?
I think these are related disciplines because
in odontology, even though it’s a scientific
field, we need to have a high level of mobility
and a strong artistic side. This similarity was
one of the reasons that let me choose this
major since it complements my passion for
biology and art,

acrílicos y acuarela”.

Estos rasgos somáticos, corporales y anatómicos se ven
en tus trabajos. Si bien, en odontología se trabaja para
moldear el cuerpo, en arte debés moldearlo con distintas
técnicas. Ahora que hablás de varias técnicas, ¿cuál te
ayuda más o ves más cercana al movimiento que intentas
dar en tus trabajos artísticos?

“Principalmente, acuarela experimental, ya que es una

técnica mixta. Con ella suelo usar acuarela, tinta, distintos
solventes o cualquier cosa que me permita jugar con el
movimiento. Mis trabajos, que son bastante anatómicos,
poseen libertad en color, movimiento y forma. Uso todo
lo que tengo al alcance: mis dedos, una esponja, cualquier
material sirve. La idea es ir creando y experimentando”.

These somatic, corporal, and anatomic traits are present in

your works. If in dentistry you work on molding objects, in
the artistic area you might use other techniques. Now you
are talking about different techniques, which one do you
consider more helpful or closely effective when you need to
add movement to your artistic works?

“Mainly, experimental watercolor, since it is a mixed

technique. With it I usually use watercolor, ink, different solvents
or anything that allows me to play with movement. My works,
which are quite anatomical, have freedom in color, movement and
shape. I use everything I have within reach: my fingers, a sponge,
any material works. The idea is to create and experiment .”

Me parece muy espontáneos y muy vivos
tus trabajos. ¿Tienes alguna experiencia
que hayás pasado pintando y que querás
compartir?
“Es extraño, sensaciones y experiencias.
Generalmente, cuando me pongo a pintar
me van naciendo cosas. Un día había hecho
una cabeza a mi estilo y de la nada le pinté un
pez. Y desde esa vez, siento que todos mis
trabajos tienen que tener ese pez. Creo que
puede significar que a pesar de la complejidad
del ser humano, nosotros necesitamos fluir y
el pez está mostrando esa necesidad mía de
fluir. Otra cosa que me pasa es que necesito
incluir números y si observas las obras incluyo
números, fechas que no sé ni siquiera de dónde
vienen pero me nacen en el momento y las
incluyo en cualquier parte.
Your works seem to be very spontaneous
and lively. Do you have an experience
that came out of painting and that you
would like to share?
“It’s weird: sensations and experiences.
Normally, when I’m painting, things emerge.
One day, I was making a head, in my own
style, and out of nowhere, painted a fish. I
think it was since then that all my works
have to have that fish. For me, it means that
in spite of human complexity, we need to
flow, and this fish shows my necessity to
flow. Another thing that happens to me is
my need to add numbers, and if you observe
my works, I include numbers, dates. I don’t
even know where they come from. They
just spring at the moment so I can add them
in any place.

Mucha gente que me ve pintar, dicen que es
demasiado raro porque me encierro mucho
y no percibo mi entorno. También cuando
empiezo una obra, la tengo que terminar de ser
posible, el mismo día. Si no logro terminarla
el mismo día, esa obra la tengo que eliminar
porque siento que no logré representar lo
que estaba sintiendo en el momento”.
Yo soy del área de letras y siempre me
llama la atención las artes poéticas, es
decir, cómo hacen arte los otros. En pintura
cuesta que sea momentáneo y lleva su
tiempo. A propósito de ello te dejo un
poema del tema. Y a partir de ello, y de lo
dicho antes, ¿cómo es hacer arte para ti?
“Hacer arte es un modo de desnudar el
subconsciente y mostrárselo al resto, ya que
a través de éste podemos reflejar cosas que
en lo cotidiano no mostramos. Por este medio
podemos hacerlo palpable y hacer que sea
interpretado por otras personas”.
When people see me painting, they say
it’s weird because I shut myself off so
I don’t perceive the environment. Also,
when I start a new work, I have to finish it,
if possible, the same day. If I do not finish
it the same day, I get rid of it because I
could not represent what I was feeling at
that moment.”
Since I belong to Humanities, poetic
arts has always called my attention. In
other words, how others create art. In
painting, it’s hard to be spontaneous
and takes time. By the way, here I
leave you a poem regarding this topic.
Concerning this and what you said
before, how do you define the act of
making art?
“Making art is a way to unveil the
subconscious and to display it to others
because it is a way in which we can show
things that we do not show everyday. In
this way we make it tangible so people

¿Cómo acercamos el arte que siempre es
visto como para pocos a más personas?
Más ahora en cuarentena.
“Este es el momento perfecto
para acercar el arte y que nosotros nos
acerquemos al arte. Hoy tenemos más tiempo
para encontrarnos con nosotros mismos,
para ver más allá de los cuerpos y vernos
como un todo: alma y espíritu”. Es a partir
de aquí, precisamente, desde donde puedes
desarrollar tu lado artístico”.
“Lamentablemente, durante la cuarentena
no podemos ir a un museo o ir a ver una obra,
pero gracias a Dios existen todas estas
plataformas digitales que nos permiten
acercarnos al arte de otras personas. De
todos modos, creo que lo más importante, es
descubrir nuestro propio arte. Todos los seres
humanos tenemos algo artístico escondido y
que potencialmente podríamos desarrollar
porque todos tenemos algo que decir”.
How can we make art more approachable
to others even when people think it’s
for a few? Now more than ever that we
are in quarantine.
This is a perfect time to bring art
closer and to get closer to art. Today,
we have more time to find ourselves, to
go beyond our bodies, and to see us as
a whole: soul, and spirit. It is from here
on, precisely, that you can develop your
artistic side.
Unfortunately, in quarantine, we can not
go to a museum or to see a play, but, thank
god, there are all those digital platforms
that allow us to get closer to others’
works of art. Either way, I think the most
important thing is to find our own art. All
human beings have something artistic
hidden and that we could potentially
develop because we all have something
to say.”

Y como última pregunta, me gustaría que
nos dieras alguna recomendación de algo o
alguien es decir arte que te guste o que te haya
inspirado. Me refiero a un estilo o a un o una
artista en específico.
“Mi desarrollo como artista no ha sido
inspirado por nadie, sólo me baso en mis
experiencias y sensaciones. Si bien me gustan
muchos tipos de expresiones artísticas que van
desde la pintura hasta la escritura, nunca ha sido
mi intención seguir a un artista. Cada artista
tiene algo especial y rescatable, incluso mi
mayor inspiración es mi entorno. Esa es la gracia
del arte: encontrar aquello que te representa. Yo
no pinto imágenes, sino que pinto sensaciones”.

And as the last question, I want you to tell

us a recommendation about something or
someone. I mean, art that has inspired you or
that you like. I’m talking about a style or an
artist specifically.
My development as an artist has not
been inspired by anybody. I just focus on my
experiences and sensations. Even though
there’s too much I like about different artistic
expressions from painting to writing, it has
never been my intention to follow an artist. Each
artist has something special and retrievable.
Also, my greatest inspiration is my environment.
This is the grace of art: to find something that
represents you. I do not paint images; instead, I
paint sensations.”
