The DB STEADFAST Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLPm) is a collective effort of the Don
Bosco Boys Home and Vocational Training Center, Inc. Staff, educators, instructors and
working scholars within the Senior High School and TVET sectors to come together and put up
an association in view of not only augment family income but also help out students and trainees
to complete their studies and finish their training.

The Don Bosco TVET sector has been operational some twenty (20) years back. Youngsters
coming from nearby come to join the training. It has been analyzed that a good number of these
young trainees cannot complete and finish their technical skills training. The reality of their
being underprivileged could have been a motivating factor for them to continue and finish their
training. Rather, some 40-45% of these trainees drop out and stopped training.

The same scenario is experienced with these two-year old Senior High School. A good 42% of
the students drop out of class. Analyzing the situation, the school and center saw that many
factors do contribute to the dwindling and even collapsed motivation of the students and trainees
to continue in their studies and training.

Possible and strong reasons for student/trainee drop-outs:

1. Daily school allowance 7. Poor literacy and numeracy skills
2. Transportation allowance 8. Less support of parents
3. Food allowance 9. Parent’s indifference to education
4. Incomplete school/shop materials 10. Consistent assignments, study outputs
5. Inadjustment to school/center’s policies 11. Call of the barkada/ka-Berks
6. Difficulty of morning transport 12. Tardiness/Late to school leading to
absences

Objectives

The DB STEAD Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLPm) is designed to:

1. Enhance livelihood skills to students and trainees in dire financial needs and
augment family income
2. Provide entrepreneurial skills to students, trainees and educational staff to
encourage and start their own small family business
3. Support DB STEAD, as an association, in the execution of the execution of the
Sustainable Livelihood Program

In this regard, the DB STEAD put up a sustainable livelihood program that will offer its
members and target beneficiaries benefits that can alleviate the day-to-day burdens of family life
and augment scholastic and training needs. This Student-Trainee Assistance Program (STAP)
will go parallel with the SLPm. Target beneficiaries and participant to the different projects
(SLPt) will be screened and agreed upon by the STAP office. The approval will be the principal
and/or training director of the school and training center. Thus, all sustainable livelihood
projects (SLPt) will be reviewed, noted and approved by the principal and/or training director.

The DB STEAD Projects (SLPt) are categorized as:

1. Skills Training Educational Assistance (STEA)
2. Cash-for-Building Educational Assistance (CBEA)
3. Enterprise Capital for Educational Assistance (ECEA)
4. Community-Based Training for Educational Assistance (CBTEA)
5. Others
