Why ?
With respect to frequency of the radiation, the number of standing waves is also
increasing quadratically.
Consider a cork ball, which is a good example for a solid sphere with radius ‘r’.
Solid sphere is composed of many hollow spheres, which are with radii varying
linearly from zero to ‘r’.
Every hollow sphere’s surfaces are made by number of very small points. Each
and every point corresponds to one standing wave.
