CHAPTER III

Research Methodology

This chapter scopes the design of the research being used in the study, population and the

sample of the study, research instrument to be utilized in the study, data gathering procedure and

statistical representation of data.

Research Design

The design to be utilized in this study is a descriptive research. The study aims to

accurately and systematically describe a population, situation or a phenomenon (McCombes,

2019). Descriptive research is used to assess and describe the perspectives of students in the

Ateneo de Zamboanga University towards radio as an effective way of advertising products. A

total of 100 students from Ateneo de Zamboanga University Senior High School Unit were

drawn from 5 sections. The Accountancy, and Business Management strand was used to be the

respondents of the study.

Population and Sample of the Study

From the chosen students, we are going to use a simple random sampling. A simple

random sample is a subset of a statistical population in which each member of the subset has an

equal probability of being chosen. A simple random sample is meant to be an unbiased

representation of a group (Hayes, 2019). From the chosen students, a simple random sampling

was utilized. A simple random sample is a subset of a statistical population in which each

member of the subset has an equal probability of being chosen. A simple random sample is
meant to be an unbiased representation of a group (Hayes, 2019). Since simple random sampling

was used, we chose the grade 11 students to be the participants of the study specifically the ABM

students. From each section of the Grade 11 ABM class (Mayer, Pro, Palliola, San Vitores, and

Sales), 20 respondents were randomly picked to participate.

Research Instrument

A survey questionnaire is to be used in the research that contains survey questions

pertaining to the topic to be defended and does not show any vagueness upon answering that is

simple and straight to the point. The questionnaire includes optional questions like the

respondent's name, age, sex etc. for their privacy. The main advantage of survey questionnaire is

that, it is the easiest way to gather information from the chosen respondents but in contradiction

to this, the main and crucial disadvantage of using this instrument is dishonesty where this can be

an issue to the process of the research where some respondents may not be 100% reliable with

their answers due to some variety of reasons, including social desirability bias and attempting to

protect privacy. However, survey questionnaires may be the easiest instrument to use when

doing a research, yet it has the crucial disadvantage which is dishonesty that may give the

researchers a hard time to accomplish their corresponding parts in doing the study. In addition,

this instrument will serve as an auxiliary in order to identify results and in compliance to the

whole research.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Statistical Treatment is a process to scrutinize and informing the credibility of

information that has been gathered. In order to interpret the date collected, the researchers will

identify the following: Mean, median, mode, and the standard deviation. To make the readers
understand this research, it is highly necessary to interpret data. Nominal scale will be utilized in

processing the data since it is identified to include tags or labels, in order to classify an object.

Additional reason as to why it is nominal scale is because it deals with non-numeric variable

which is suitable for this research.
