Internship Summary

I had the opportunity to intern for the former mayor of the city of Dublin, Mr. Gregory
Peterson. Besides being the mayor of such a successful city, Mr. Peterson owns a law firm with
his brother Mr. Mark Peterson, and their partner Kevin Conners. PetersonConners LLP focuses
on ten different areas of the law: business, real estate, litigation, white collar crime, business
restructuring & receiverships, government procurement & competitive selection, government
relations, professional boards & licensing, immigration, estate planning, and criminal defense &
traffic. As a firm, their goal is to provide their clients a great legal representation; to achieve this,
they use the following four core factors: commitment, integrity, skill and experience. As an intern
I was able to sit down on Mr. Peterson’s phone calls and meetings with his clients. I also had
the opportunity to help other attorneys at the firm with research and investigation.
I had many experiences as an intern at PetersonConners, but there were two that
impacted me the most. I had the opportunity to sit in a meeting with my mentor and the parents
of his client; who has been in prison for over seven years. On this meeting I saw how prepared
and professional Mr. Peterson was. He discussed with the parents what the plan was to try to
get their son out of prison, and answered every question with respect and empathy. From this
experience I was able to learn how important it is to be professional, but also to understand and
feel empathy towards your client. My second learning experience was when my mentor gave
me the opportunity to sit down on a phone call with his client who was in prison, and put on
death row. My mentor gave him the great news that he wasn’t on death row anymore. It was
great to see the excitement of his client. He said “Greg you don’t know how it feels to be here”.
Mr. Peterson responded with a very empathetic and respectful answer. He said, “I won’t be
disrespectful by saying that I know how you feel, but I’ve been around working in this industry
that I know how hard it is for you”. This experience taught me how some mistakes can demolish
our life, but also how much social background can influence someone’s behaviors. This
internship provided me with many tools related to the profession; like researching, investigating,
listening, and professionalism. On the other hand I was also able to learn core values that I will
never learn in school: respect, empathy, commitment, and integrity.
I decided to take YPA so I would get to know myself in a different environment that is not
school or sports, I wanted to understand the different working environments, go through the
experience of finding a potential full time job before going to college, and find my college major.
I decided to intern at a law firm because it has been a career that many people in my family
have chosen, and I’ve always had a passion for it. After interning for Mr. Peterson I was able to
fulfill my four YPA purposes. I want to minor in Pre Law, and eventually earn a Juris Doctor
degree. In the future my goal is to pursue a career as an attorney and entrepreneur

I want to thank Mr. Gregory Peterson and all the attorneys at PetersonConners LLP. I
will also like to thank Mrs. Hollys Hall, Mr. Mark Mousa, and Mr. Drew Jones for all the work and
life lessons in the YPA class.
