Taught two Chinese courses to 9-12 grade students at Middlebury College’s 4-week intensive language
immersion program: 1) Level 1 Chinese class (true beginners), 8 students; 2) Elective class “Chinese Modern
Music”, 15 students.
 Collaborated with another teacher and designed the Level 1 course curriculum.
 Designed the curriculum for a content-based course titled “Chinese Modern Music”.
 Exchanged feedback with students regularly, and incorporated student’s individual needs and learning styles
into class activities and instructions.
 Used a variety of communicative activities, games and visual aids in class to improve learning experience.

Adjunct Chinese Teacher 11/2009-Present

Teach small group and one-on-one intensive Chinese programs to learners from various backgrounds. Each
program is customized and lasts for 3-6 weeks, including: Intermediate Chinese listening and speaking, Advanced
Chinese reading, Beginner Chinese, and Defense Language Proficiency Test preparation course.
 Collaborated with other teachers to design each program, including creating syllabi and choosing textbooks
& materials, based on the specific needs of each learner.
 Increased student autonomy, by exchanging feedback with learners regularly and helping them develop a
personalized learning strategy.

Volunteered to team-teach beginner Chinese one hour per week at the non-profit student-founded language club
BUILD.
 Designed a topic-based curriculum based on learners’ needs.

at MIIS and community members who were interested in Chinese.

Elementary Chinese, focusing on grammar, vocabulary and conversation practice.

 Designed and developed a new learner-centered, needs-based curriculum that incorporated both traditional
and modern Chinese culture and increased students’ motivation.
 Engaged students by incorporating a multi-media, project-based approach where they challenged themselves
to experiment with higher-level language and practice existing course context.
 Increased student autonomy, by conducting one-on-one meeting focusing on learners’ strengths, learning
strategies and learning styles.
 Promoted students’ cultural awareness, by encouraging them to participate in activities outside the classroom
(e.g. Chinese performances, guest speakers, lectures. movies etc.).
