The Materials to be requested in this MR are supposed to be included in the MR

document no:D7068-R-EI-017 - Cable trays & fittings

We have used Oglaend trays for splice case application in earlier projects. In this
case also, we are proposing Oglaend material only for the special application, for
which I believe other vendors may not be able to provide a matching / appropriate
solution.

Why cant the Instrument cable terminating at Electrical enclosure have the NPT
Cable Glands?

Is it that if it is electrical cable, it should have NPT glands and if it is

Instrument cable, it should have SS Glands
- provided the gland entry is NPT threaded
- provided it is a NPT punched hole(meaning hole is made as per the recommended dia
for NPT glands)
As per SAES-P-104, All threaded cable fittings including terminators (glands) for
metric size cables shall have tapered (NPT) threads in accordance with ANSI/ASME
B1.20.1.
Why cant the Electrical cable terminating at Instrument enclosure have the Metric
Cable Glands?
- provided the gland entry is parallel threaded
- provided it is a Metric punched hole (meaning hole is made as per the recommended
dia for Metric glands)

Why cant the Electrical cable terminating at Instrument enclosure have the NPT
Cable Glands?
- provided the gland entry has 5 full threads engaged (suppose say, if the
instrument has no 5 full threads), NPT gland cant be used
- Metric to NPT Adaptor

Interface between NPT thread and Metric gland will not create a flame path

As per SAES-J-902, .2.1 Parallel thread (metric) entry threads into instruments and
wiring enclosures are preferred.

Electrical Items (Enclosures & PC, CC Cables) - Should be terminated/connected with

Nickel plated brass NPT Cable glands. Is this mandatory?
Instrument Items (Enclosures, Instruments & IC Cables) - Should be
terminated/connected with SS 316 Metric glands. Is this mandatory?

1. Ex-d enclosures requires Barrier type glands

2. Non - Barrier Gland would be used when a gas tight cable passes through
hazardous area and terminates in an unclassified area / located in the safe area.
3. Why Barrier type gland to be used for Ex- d enclosures, even if the terminating
cable is of Gas tight construction?

1. Temperature compensation Sensor (Connected from the Battery bank to the DC UPS)
- What is the purpose of this temperature compensation sensor? Out of the 62 Cells,
to which cell this sensor is connected to?
2. Pilot temperature sensor (Connected from the Battery bank to the Battery
Monitoring System) - What is the purpose of this sensor? Does it refers to pilot
cell? or a sensor is connected to each 62 cells to measure the temperature? the
cell being flooded lead acid, does it measure the electrolyte temperature? If so
can the sensor be dipped into Electrolyte to measure the temperature? What type of
sensor is used here so that the sensor does not get corroded as it is dipped in the
electrolyte

Please confirm the 230V AC Auxiliary Power supply for the DC Battery chargers is
already considered in the AC Power panel boards @ Aux Platform.
