HOW DOES MAP’S TRAINING CAMP WORK?

This Playbook & Assignment Overview is a guide on how to approach Make A Play’s
Training Camp. We have divided all of your assignments, both substantive study and
skills training, amongst six distinct (6) “Plays.” Each Play does not necessarily
correspond to a specific period of time (i.e., one week) but rather to the number of
hours it should take to complete each play.

As a general guideline, students who ‘train’ every day should be able to complete a
single “play” between 12-14 days. Determining the exact length of a play will depend
heavily on whether that student is in-season or in their off-season.

All MAP Players entering our community come in at the “Pro” level. Your ability to
successfully complete material will allow you to level up to “Hall of Fame” status. MAP
Players who have completed 75% of the Training Camp will have access to one on one
coaching sessions.

Plays: Each play includes (1) a variation of resources (articles, videos, presentations) and
(2) activities to exercise your learnings. These activities are opportunities to dive deeper
into the Play, giving you resources that you can leverage beyond the Playbook. Per our
direction, we will ask you to submit your work as proof of completion.

Our Training Camp is a well-tested approach that has been used by many of MAP’s
Coaches to secure executive positions. If you have any questions about this Overview or
the Training Camp in general, please e-mail us at info@makeaplayfoundation.com. We
are here to help you be successful on and off the field!

SIX PLAYS OF PROFESSIONALISM
We highlight six ‘Plays’ of professionalism that all MAP Players must make to meet the
standards of competitive industries and develop into well-rounded professionals. We have
designed each play to develop within our Players the necessary skills, knowledge and
behaviors to become competitive for entry-level positions at Fortune 500 companies or its
equivalent for students pursuing graduate and professional school. The modules are as
follows:

• On the Field – developing power skills surrounding leadership and teamwork – skills
that you already possess that will help you professionally.

• Off the Field - management of your time and responsibilities on or off campus; and
review of tools to improve organizational efficacy.

• Network - leveraging communication, curiosity, and storytelling to build a strong

professional network.

• Brand - presenting your individual brand for professional and social capital.

• Community - developing your leadership abilities on and off the field by becoming
more comfortable with the ‘uncomfortable’ or sublime.

• Personal Growth & Wellness - prioritizing wellness to overcome hardships, defy

stereotypes, and promote diversity, equity and inclusion inside and outside the
workplace.

PLAY STRUCTURE
Each ‘Play’ consists of 5 modules—3 video lectures (Film Study), 3 articles (Coaching Tips), 2
assignments (Run the Play), 1 page of interview preparation (“Post-Game Interview), and 1
page of resume development (Highlight Reel). Leveraging the resources and perspectives
of your Film Study and Coaching Tips are meant to drive home the importance of the Play.
We provide you with thoughtful activities via Run the Play to put your skills to the test. The
Post-Game Interview gives you a chance to reflect on your own experience as it relates to
the Play. The Highlight Reel is your opportunity to recap the Play and continue to exercise
your skills in your day to day. You can find additional details below:

1. Film Study
We incorporate 3 video lectures into our course to strengthen your
confidence and focus, and to game-plan for the realities you will face as an
underrepresented student- athlete in the hiring process.

With solid film study, you can pick up on certain tendencies that employers
and hiring managers utilize and use them to your advantage. Remember: the
best defense is a great offense —so, be proactive in learning your opponent's
strategies.

2. Coaching Tips
Learning to read defenses is critical to your development on and off the
field—and a part of that is learning from professionals and experts in your
desired field. We incorporate 3 articles into our course to give you a mental
edge.

We recognize the relationship between practice and performance and

connect you to articles that increase your factual knowledge of important
topics, which will, in turn, help you detect patterns, solve problems, and
digest new information.

3. Run the Play(s)
After you watch film and read our coaching tips, you will be prepared to run
the play and apply the skills you’ve learned. The best way to improve
technique is through constant repetition and high volume, and we have
designed our assignments to help you better understand your personal
strengths.

As you run the plays, you will inherently adapt to the rigors of ‘playing’ in
corporate America and will become ‘game-ready’ as a result.

4. Post-Game Interview
We prepare a list of interview questions at the end of each “Play” that
corresponds with the specific skill(s) we will be developing/testing. This
preparation will allow you to speak more comfortably, flexibly, and
confidently about your experiences on and off the field to hiring managers.

5. Highlight Reel
After you practice your skills by watching film, reading our coaching tips, and
running the plays, we highlight ways for you to represent your skills on a
resume, cover letter or LinkedIn profile; and in a way that ensures you and
your experiences shine.
