WHAT IS LEGAL MANAGEMENT?

Bachelor of Arts in Legal Management

The Bachelor of Arts in Legal Management program provides students with knowledge
of the basic principles of law as well as the essential processes governing the Philippine
legal system. Aside from being an excellent preparatory course for formal law studies,
the program also imparts to students practical knowledge of fundamental management
principles. It also gives students a strong background in research, problem solving and
analysis

The subjects in the BS in Legal Management curriculum are divided into six main

How long does it take to complete the ABLM program in the Philippines?
The AB in Legal Management program takes four years to complete (Note: this may
change due to the K-12 integration). The program may be completed in a shorter time in
schools that follow the trimestral curriculum.

On the Job Training (OJT)


A student of the BS in Legal Management program is required to attend an on the job
training (OJT) in a law firm, business company, or government agency. During the OJT,
students are given the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have learned in the
classroom. The OJT program is done under the supervision of a designated authority in
the establishment/office which will evaluate the student periodically and submit the
evaluation form to the assigned faculty member.

The number of hours required for the OJT varies from one school to another.
What are the admission requirements for the BSLM program?
Requirements at each school may differ, but are generally the basic college admission
requirements:

 Must be a high school graduate.


Those who did not complete high school education may opt to first attend
Alternative Learning System (ALS) and pass the Philippine Educational
Placement Test (PEPT) or Senior High School to qualify for college. However,
some universities only offer selected courses for PEPT passers
 College entrance exam: must pass the college entrance examination with a
specified rating set by the school.

What skills, traits and attitude will help you succeed in this course?

 Reading Inclination – throughout the entire program, there will be a lot of law
subjects that you will encounter, studying these subjects will require you to
consistently read to be able to understand and grasp certain concepts so you
must love reading.
 Memorization skills – the ability to recall concepts that have been previously
studied and apply it to new subjects and lessons.
 Reading Comprehension – there are many subjects in the curriculum that will be
very difficult to understand most especially interpreting laws and certain legal
principles, it is important to be able to understand the English language correctly.
 Communication skills – the ability to proficiently speak and write English and
convey information in a clear, concise, and logical manner.
 Analytical skills – the ability to review complex written documents, draw
inferences and create connections between concepts.
 Logical thinking skills – the ability to connect basic law concepts to more
advanced law subjects and apply them in business scenarios.
 Basic Mathematics – aside from law subjects, there are many business subjects
in the program that require the use of certain mathematical concepts and
operations thus it’s very important to have strong mathematical foundation.
 Computer Literacy – knowledge of computer use and being able to understand
application programs.
