ABSTRACT

ASCO HASIHOLAN SIMARMATA. The Effect of Teaching Style and Learning

Motivation on the Learning Outcomes of the Basic Breaststroke Swimming Technique in
Class VII Students of State Middle School 6 Medan Academic Year 2018-2019. Thesis,
Medan: Educational Technology Study Program, Postgraduate Program, Medan State
University, 2019.

The problem in this study is the low student learning outcomes of basic swimming pool style
technique topic. This research aims to find out: (1) the learning outcomes of basic breaststroke
swimming techniques taught with inclusion teaching styles higher than reciprocal teaching styles
(2) the results of learning basic techniques of high motivation breaststroke swimming taught in
reciprocal teaching higher than high motivation taught by the style of teaching inclusion (3) there
are interactions between teaching styles and student motivation.
This research was conducted on students of Medan 6 Public Middle School class VII Even
Semester Academic Year 2018-2019. The sampling technique was used with Purposive
Sampling based on each consisting of 32 for the first experimental class and 32 for the second
experimental group. The research method used was quasi-experimental with factorial 2 x 2. The
analysis technique used was a two-way analysis of variance with a significance level of α = 0.05
with F test, further testing using the Tukey Test.
The results showed (1) the learning outcomes of the basic breaststroke swimming technique
taught by inclusion teaching style was higher than the reciprocal teaching style with F count > Ftable
with Fcount = 94,89 > Ftabel = 4.00, (2) learning outcomes of basic techniques of swimming
breaststroke with high motivation taught by inclusion teaching style is higher than high
motivation taught by reciprocal teaching style with Fcount = 34,67 > Ftable = 4.00, (3) there is an
interaction between Teaching Style and learning motivation in influencing the basic breaststroke
swimming technique with F values Calculating columns (interactions) greater than Ftable with
Fcount = 5,07 > Ftable = 4,00.
Therefore Inclusion teaching style can improve student learning outcomes in learning basic
swimming-style swimming techniques. The higher students' learning motivation with inclusion
teaching style, the higher the learning outcomes obtained by students. The interaction between
teaching style and learning motivation will have a positive impact on learning outcomes
