C. Lesson Proper
1. The teacher will say that the use of the word TO + the base form of the verb is
an INFINITIVE.
2. Discuss what infinitive is.
- Infinitive is a verb form that can be used as a noun, an adjective or an adverb.
It consists of the word “to” plus the basic form of the verb. Because infinitive is
not a verb, you cannot add s, es, ed or ing. I’ll use the result of our game as an
example.
3. Give sample sentences with infinitives in the class.
a. To kiss our parents before we go to school is a sign of respect.
b. The place to drive is on the high way.
c. Jose Rizal inspires the young generation to write with passion.
d. That water is too cold to play.
e. One of my dreams when I was a child was to fly.
4. Ask the students to identify the infinitives in each sentence.
5. Let the students give their own examples of infinitives.
6. Segue way to the different usage of infinitives.
In order for them to further understand the infinitives, I’ll show another
examples using “to play” to emphasize the different usage of infinitives (The
teacher will discuss the sentences).

Infinitive phrases can function as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs. Look at these

examples:
a. To play her newly bought game without affecting her studies is May's only
goal as of now.
To play her newly bought game functions as a noun because it is the
subject of the sentence.
b. Lakesha hopes to play the newly bought game of her sister by doing the
dishes for her.
To play the newly bought game functions as a noun because it is the direct
object for the verb hopes.
c. The best way to survive Dr. Peterson's boring history lectures is to play with
your pen.
To survive Dr. Peterson's boring history lectures functions as an adjective
because it modifies way.
7. Give more examples and let the students identify the infinitives and its function
in each sentence.
