Task A4 | Design brief

🔎 What? ❗Why?

Develop a design brief, which You have to make a decision at this point in the project: What will you design and create,

research.

⚙ How?
Research results summary
● Present the main results of your research (from A2) in a concise list of bullet points. This must be in your own words!
● Illustrate your take-aways with imagery wherever you feel this reduces the amount of writing needed. However, don’t
add images for the sake of adding images. Cite any images that you use.
● Cite (in-text) from the sources that you found your answers from. Use the proper MLA format.

DEFINITIONS By consulting sources, I have found out:

● I learned the fabric is material that makes clothes, like cotton.
● Textiles are the material made of nature fiber, like clothes.
● Garments are a piece of clothing that is made by textiles.

MANUFACTURING By consulting sources about manufacturing cotton, I have found out:

● There are people twist the cotton in different directions. This makes the cotton
more suitable and strong for spinning into threads.
● There are different ways for different kinds of situations for joining the cotton
together. Like fusing, it is used in interlining garments.

TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS By consulting sources such as, I have found out the following information that I can use for
FOR MAKING designing and creating my product:
● If you want to make clothes, you can’t just find fabric and start making. You need
to draw a sewing pattern to help you so you won’t make mistakes.
● Drawing a sew pattern needs a pattern paper and a chalk to draw the colthe’s
front, back and other small parts of the clothes.
● Making clothes requires lots of tools. Like: Thread (polyester and cotton and
waxed) Eyelets ,Studs, Rivets…..

CLIENT INFORMATION By consulting sources such as, I have realized the following considerations should be taken
into account when designing and creating my product:
● If not necessary, better not use some strange color or bright color. It is hard to
find a color that can fit it.
● Style better be some kind is familiar to the costume because if you make a
strange thing, maybe some costume like me won’t like it. Only the artist or people
that like to collect these kinds of bags.

PRACTICAL SKILLS By completing the practical skills tasks, I have learned the following skills (list & explain):
● Sew a button. Sew a cross line for the four holes button three or four times to
reinforce it.
● Running stitches. The needle first goes up at the back of the fabric so the knot is
at the back. Then, go down and up and repeat several times until it’s done.
● Oversitches. It starts with two layers of the fabric, and the needle goes to the
middle of the two layers so the knot will hide in the middle. Then every time just
go underneath the two fabric and go up. Repeat til it’s done.
● Blanket stitches. At first, the knot is between two layers and the needle goes the
back of two layers, coming up in the same spot of the first place. When put the
needle up, leave a small space at the end and put the needle through the space.
Then pull the needle tide. Repeat the steps.
The skills that will be useful for my project are (list & explain why):
● Blanket stitches. Blanket stitch is a beautiful sewing skill to put two sides of
fabric together.
● Back stitches. Back stitches are very similar to running stitches but it looks better
than running stitches. It is closer to each other and really tidy if you are good at it.
It will be helpful for my project because it is tider and tidy.
● Sew a button. It will be useful for my project because the button is a very
important part of the soft toys. They can be eyes, nose or even ears for the soft
toys.
The skills that I still need to practice or want to learn more about are (list & explain):
● French knot. The video is a little bit fast and I still not very clear how to do it.
● Over stitches. The stitches can’t have the same length and the same space
between each other.

● List any sources of information used in this section. Present in-text citations in your research summary section to the
references listed in this section.

Project commitment
● State what type of product you are going to develop in your project in this unit and outline the direct practical purpose
of this product.
● Outline the bigger picture purpose of the product.
● Describe the client or target audience for whom you will develop the product.

Product and Purpose In this project, I will create a soft toy

The purpose of my product is to be more familiar with how to make a toy by my own hand
and be confident with the sewing skill.

Design Goal My product will address the design problem of what kind of toy I am going to make.
Textiles are quickly sent to landfills recycle places .

Intended My product is intended to be used by Children under 12 years old.

Target audience

Target audience representative I would describe my client as children.

Their needs and wants for the product are soft and pretty looks toys. For the girls they
