Classroom Goals
● Students will learn to play in an ensemble.
● Students will continue to make progress playing their
instrument and develop intermediate skills.
● Students will explore and develop their music theory and literacy skills.
● Students will work as a team to work towards a common goal of shared musicianship.
● Students will learn about a variety of music literature, mostly revolving around traditional
band repertoire.

Classroom Expectations
Band students are expected to be:
● Punctual: Students are dismissed from lunch. Once students enter the room they will
have 5 minutes to set up with their chair, stand, music, and all materials ready at the
conclusion of those 5 minutes.
● Respectful: Students will show respect for their peers, their instrument, their classroom
materials, and to themselves everyday they are in class.
● Engaged: Students are expected to be involved in participating in the success of the
ensemble.
● Prepared: Students should have your instrument, extra reeds, valve oil, sticks, music,
stand and chair ready to go for rehearsal.

Classroom Discipline
If students are disruptive to the class; excessive talking, playing when they are not supposed to,
or anything else that disrupts the rehearsal process will follow the following steps:
● Step 1: Verbal Warning
● Step 2: Students will lose points on their daily 5 points and will meet with Mr. Harr after
class to come up with a proactive plan moving forward.
● Step 3: If students lose all 5 points a contact will be made home.
Grading Breakdown
● Rehearsal Points: Students will receive a 5 point grade for being punctual, respectful,
engaged, and prepared. Students will lose points if they are late, on their phone, unkind
to their classmates or materials, or do not have their materials for the day.

● Reflection Points: Throughout the semester students will reflect on their own progress,
the progress of the ensemble as well as listen to music and share their opinions in
writing.

● Performance Points: Attending performances is a required part of being in band. Keep

track of your own calendar, check the website for more info, and look out for reminders
given in class. If a student has another school activity, family emergency, or another
excuse must be shared with Mr. Harr well in advance to the concert performance. In that
case an alternate assignment can be given.

● Written Points: Students will complete worksheets/assignments in music theory, rhythm

notation, and other projects throughout the semester. These assignments will
accompany the music literature that is being worked on in class.

Grading Scale
The student grading scale is as follows:
● 93-100 A
● 85-92 B
● 77-84 C
● 70-76 D
● 0-69 F

Concert Dress
Unless otherwise stated, concert attire will be traditional “Concert Black”. This will make us look
like a unified, professional ensemble.
● Guys: Black collared shirt, black dress pants, black dress socks, black dress shoes
● Ladies: All black: black dress pants, black shirt/dress that goes to your knee or below
when sitting, and a solid black dress shirt/blouse that has sleeves.
