Subject: Seeking direction to prevent construction of New Borewell.

Respected Sir,

This is to bring your notice that the new borewell construction would affect our village farmers who are
rely on this source.

Borewell Construction:

We are the people residing in Avaiyarkuppam Village in Mailam Block in Villupuram District of Tamil
Nadu State, India. It is located 32 KM towards North from District head quarters Viluppuram.

We have 2 major lakes in our village for agriculture purpose and also for drinking purpose.

1) Avvaiyarkuppam Lake
2) Periyaandapattu lake

Periyandapattu Lake:

This lake spreads over an area of about 20,000 square meters. This lake water will be used
across widely for 100 acres of irrigation land in and around the villages.

In this lake, TWAD has constructed two borewells in the following period.

• 2009-2010
• 2018-2019

Both borewells are already catering the drinking purpose needs.

Again, officials are planning to construct one more borewell in this lake to cater the drinking
purpose.

If the third-borewell will be constructed, farmers worried that who rely on this water would be
affected largely.

As the lake has not been desilted for the years properly, around 10 feet silt has accumulated in
the water body resulting in the drastic reduction of the water storage area.

Suggestion:

Instead of Constructing borewell in the Periyandapattu lake, would be better to construct it in

the Avvaiyarkuppam Lake, as the lake has only-one borewell in place.

Avvaiyarkuppam Lake spreads over an area of about 6070285 square meters.

Catering the drinking purpose also easier from this lake to our village. It is a vast lake which
would caters agriculture need for the surrounding villages.

Agiculture would not get affected as if the new borewell would be constructed in
Avvaiyarkuppam lake.
