Applying for your Tier 4 Visa


It is your responsibility to organise and provide the correct documents for your visa application. If you do not
send the correct documents, your application may be refused. For more detailed information please visit

You must show that you have enough money to cover your tuition fee and living costs (including
accommodation). For more information about accommodation and living in the UK, please see

you have held the required money for a consecutive period of 28-days ending no more than one month
before your visa application.
From time to time, the UK Border Agency may change its requirements and/or processes. We will
endeavour to inform you if any of these changes affect your offer and/or your course. However, Birmingham
City University has no control over these requirements and we have no liability to you in relation to the
consequences of any such changes.

Accommodation
International students who have accepted the offer of a place on the course and apply by 31 July 2013 will
be guaranteed accommodation. We cannot guarantee your first choice accommodation or guarantee single
sex accommodation as places are subject to availability. We will endeavour to accommodate students as
close to their place of study and/or according to the accommodation preferences selected on the Online
Accommodation Application form; however this is dependent upon availability at the time of allocating the

Enrolment
When you enrol onto your Course you will be required:
• To produce your original certificates including your English Language qualification as listed on your
CAS. If the certificates are not in English, you will be required to produce an official translation of the
document accompanied with the original and both will need to be presented at enrolment.
• To produce your passport and valid visa issued for Birmingham City University; the University will
take a copy for your student file.
• To pay a minimum of 50% of the tuition fee. Details for paying the remaining fees can be found in
Section 8 of our International Admissions Handbook at www.bcu.ac.uk/international/discover-
bcu/handbook.

You will not be able to enrol and join your course without providing the above, so please make sure that you
have them.

Refunds
Subject to the provisions relating to fraudulent applications, advance payments can only be refunded upon

Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) – Important Information


Your proposed programme of study falls into a category of research programmes for which an Academic
Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate is required. It is therefore essential, that, if you wish to
accept this offer, you apply for an ATAS certificate. The attached leaflet explains what the ATAS certificate is
and how to apply for it.

All UK Higher Education programmes are assigned a subject code from the Joint Academic Coding System
(known as a JACS code). MSc Mechanical Engineering have been assigned a JACS code of H3 and you
will need this information in order to submit your application for an ATAS certificate. You will also need to
provide details of your modules.
