Open frame – one or more pins left standing after the second ball is thrown – Open frames just add the # of pins knocked down Rule of thumb: A strike followed by a spare is ALWAYS 20 pins (points) & a spare followed by a strike is worth 20 pins (points) Double = 2 strikes in a row Turkey = 3 strikes in a row STRIKE AND SPARE Spare = all pins knocked down with 2 balls thrown in a frame. Scoring a spare = 10 + the next ball thrown in the next frame. Strike = all pins knocked down with the “first” ball thrown in that frame. Scoring a strike = 10 + the next 2 balls thrown. Figuring Handicap Bowl 3 games and add the total. 117+122+99= 338 Divide total by the # of games played. 338/3= 112 “200 is the highest average for your league play.” Subtract 200-by the 3 game average. 200-112= 88 Multiply that # by 90% 88 X .9= 79.2 (drop off the decimal) Your handicap is 79 Bowling for a Lifetime
