1. Why shooting is the most important thing in basketball?
~ There are several fundamental skills in basketball just like passing, dribbling, defense, offense and rebounding but in basketball you need to remember that shooting skills is the most important thing in able to win the game. It is said that shooting is a large part of mental attitude. In addition, you must have confidence in your ability to make the shot every time you shoot. Confident shooters control their thoughts, feelings, and shooting skill. Shooting is much more than good mechanics. It’s the feeling, thoughts and belief in yourself that comes first. Basketball is a mental, as well as a physical game. Developing the mental aspect is a key to enhancing shooting as well as performance in all fundamentals. The integration of the mental and mechanical aspects of shooting fosters shooting success. Development of an accurate shot forces your defender to play you tight and become vulnerable to a fake, allowing you to pass and drive as well as shoot. If you lack an accurate shot, a defender can play back in anticipation of a drive or a pass and be less susceptible to your fake. When you do not have the ball, your defender can play farther off you and be in better position to give defensive help to a teammate guarding another player. To be successful, a team must have players who can make the outside shot. Shooting is a skill you can practice by yourself. Once you understand correct mechanics, all you need is a ball, a basket, and an eagerness to improve. But it is also helpful to practice shooting under game conditions, including the pressure situations that occur late in a game. Act like a shooter, feel like a shooter, and be a shooter in able to win the team. Many players commonly get upset at an error, particularly a missed shot, and often dwell negatively on the missed shot thus negatively affecting succeeding shots. Each time a player verbally recites a negative word, acts with negative body language, or has negative thoughts after a missed shot the brain is being conditioned to perform the same missed shot again. Learn to “act like a shooter,” rather than dwelling on your missed shot and have a positive player to help your teammate to uplift and act as one team. Great shooters/players are often called pure shooters because they have a smooth, free-flowing shot or a soft touch. Some players think a pure shooter is naturally gifted - born that way but for me this is a misconception. Great shooters are made, not born. Pure shooters are made their own experiences in the game. 2. What is the purpose of calling a timeout? ~ In every sports that we might play there are always a break or what we called timeouts. The term timeout is a brief suspension of activity or a short period of time during a game in sports. Timeouts in basketball are provided under the rules because we all know basketball needs both physical and mental awareness and it is given in order to give players a chance to rest, give time to make a best plan for the opponent team, give coaches the ability to talk things over with their team, and provide players and coaches a way to stop the clock in late-game situations. The rules of basketball implement when timeouts can have used, and who is allowed to call them.
3. What is the difference between offensive foul and blocking foul?
~ An offensive foul is always committed when player pushes or runs over a defensive player. In this situation, the ball is given to the team that the foul was committed upon. In other side, the term blocking or blocking foul is illegal personal contact resulting from a defender not establishing a position in time to prevent an opponent’s drive to the basket. Now, the defender cannot draw a charge in the restricted area. So even if the offensive player crashes into him, it’s a blocking foul no matter what. Things are tricky out of the restricted area and a lot of calls are based on the referee. However, as per rules, if the defender has established position and then the ball handler crashes into him, it will be a charge or what we call offensive foul. And if the defender is still moving or has not completely made a position, it will be called a blocking foul. A charge foul is an offensive player foul and a blocking is the defensive players foul. As a player, if you want to set up a proper blocking position, both feet need to be planted on the ground and your body needs to be square to the offensive player coming towards you. If you do that position properly and the offensive player continue to runs towards you it will be a foul on them. It is very tricky kind of different fouls, you need a better understanding and observation on both players what they do on a certain time and how they interact each other.
